Congratulations to SYE and Second Chance alum Meriam on completing her first year at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), where she studies data science and AI! As a PolyU student, Meriam appreciates the number of available opportunities, whether they be internships, career development, or student associations, as well as the fact that there's always someone to help solve any issues you may be facing. She was especially surprised how supportive her professors were - they offered her additional support outside of lectures in office hours or extra consultations. She's actually made friends with many of them! In addition to her studies, Meriam was accepted to the Microsoft Student Ambassador program. In this program, she received training from Microsoft about their AI technologies and software, especially AI Copilot 365. She then hosted sharing sessions across campus to teach her peers how to utilize these technologies in their day to day life. We're so proud of Meriam and can't wait to see what she accomplishes next in Hong Kong!

Congratulations to SYE student Wesal on her acceptances and scholarships to Ashoka University in India and Hong Kong Polytechnic University! Wesal hopes to study psychology and contribute to mental health and community wellbeing in Syria and Lebanon. Outside of her studies, she serves as a cricket coach at the Alsama Project and as a young ambassador for the MCC Foundation. In her free time, Wesal loves drawing and creative writing. Her personal essay won first place in the 2025 World Historian Student Essay competition. Wesal's journey from being out of school six years ago to acceptance at competitive global universities is a testament to her resilience and ambition. We can't wait to see what she accomplishes next!

Today we're celebrating SYE One Year program alum Hadi, who is currently finishing up his first year at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology! Hadi studies biochemistry and cell biology with the goal of pursuing a career in scientific research. Outside academics, he enjoys hiking and being in nature, including at Cheung Chau Island in Hong Kong. He also enjoys science competitions, having been a participant in the Biology Olympiad, as well as tutoring and sharing his knowledge with younger students. Hadi is living his dream at HKUST and encourages everyone to consider applying to opportunities in Hong Kong, a welcoming city with amazing opportunities in science, technology, and finance.

Congratulations to SYE One Year student Hala on her acceptance and scholarship to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q)! As a future CMU-Q student, she hopes to pursue her interdisciplinary interests, ranging from biology to neuroscience to physics. Outside of SYE, Hala was on the national physics Olympiad team and volunteered as an Olympiad ambassador. She was also a participant in Together We Seek Peaks, a free research program founded by SYE alumni, where she developed her writing, research, and data collection skills while exploring her interest in biology. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis. We're so proud of Hala and can't wait for her to start her academic journey at CMU-Q!

Today, we're celebrating SYE One Year alum Judy, who was selected for the highly competitive Türkiye Scholarship program! After finishing up her year of intensive Turkish language courses, Judy will study modern physics at Ankara University this coming fall. She aspires to continue uncovering the mysteries of the universe through the study of particle physics, while contributing to the advancement of quantum computing, a field set to revolutionize future technology.

Outside of her studies, Judy enjoys spending time exploring her campus and taking part in cultural activities. She has also given back to the SYE community by hosting info sessions and being a point of contact for One Year students. We can't wait for what Judy accomplishes next in Türkiye!
