MRGA activist arrested by KRG security forces:
We demand his release and we call for solidarity!
One week ago, the member of our campaign Hawar Goran was arrested by KRG security forces of the KDP in Southern Kurdistan, when he was on his way to go back to Switzerland. Even though his lawyer directly started to care for the situation and got into contact with the Swiss authorities, Hawar Goran has been detained in Erbil/Hewlêr since then. The arrest of our campaigns’ member is not acceptable at all and we strongly oppose the attitude of the KDP and KRG officials. There is no doubt at all existing about the activities of Hawar in the region, and therefore there is no reason to hold him captive. If the KDP was worried about its people, land and region they would release him. Hawar came to Kurdistan because of feeling strongly drawn to the cause of the Kurdish people for self-determination, and he wanted to do the best he could to support this cause by doing what he knows best, and that is to develop social-ecological projects for the people and the region. After more than one year of hard work in the region to be deatined like this is a shame for the KDP and should not be accepted by anyone.
Since yesterday the lawyer (Olivier Peter) of our campaigns’ member, Hawar, issued a statement from Switzerland in the newspaper „La Cote“ (https://www.lacote.ch/articles/suisse/irak-un-ecologiste-genevois-detenu-par-les-autorites-kurdes-dans-le-nord-du-pays-986363) about his client’s situation. We were happy to hear that our comrade was able to speak to his family and that his health seemed to be fine. But this is not enough. There is no reason for him to be detained any longer. We demand the immediate realease of our comrade and friend, so that he can return to his home. We call on everybody to show their solidarity with Hawar and with the ecological revolution in Rojava and Kurdistan. And we call on all of you to protest the unacceptable policies of KDP and the KRG-Government.
As young ecologists here in Rojava and as part of Make Rojava Green Again we salute and joined the call of Friday For Future to participate in the Global Climate Strike of the 25th of September. Our campaign members, together with different local youth groups, as well took actions here in Rojava.
Together with the revolutionary youth of Rojava we made a treeplanting action today to reforest the riverbed next to the Internationalist Commune. We see this action as our contribution to the ecological revolution which is happening here and as well as an action to spread the ideas of this revolution which is showing us a solution for the ecological and the climate crisis for the whole world.
The solution will come from the people, not from the states or economic rulers:
Past and the recent history showed more than enough that big enterprises or states are ineffective to take real actions to mitigate climate change: the firsts because it goes against their direct interests, the seconds because, in our globalized world ruled by liberal economics, they are the tools of the firsts. Indeed, because the capitalist system is based on the perpetual creation and consumption of goods to allow a perpetual growth to the economy and not fall in crisis, it needs an infinite amount of resources. But the resources of nature are by definition limited. Because of this reality, capitalism means by essence the destruction and the exploitation of nature till it’s very end, till our very end…
Therefore a real solution to the climate crisis can not be found without a drastic change of our social and economic system and without rejecting capitalism as a whole!
Grassroots organizing of the youth and of society can be the answer:
To address the ecological crisis, the youth of the world have to unite at the local level, democratically and be creative to imagine new ways of living outside of the capitalist system. We have to re-imagine everything: our economy, our way to travel and move, our way to consume and produce, etc.! About economy, we have to push for the local production and consumption of the goods and make it so that we regain control of it. To fight against monopolies, we can start cooperatives to produce together and better. The use of the resources have to be discussed democratically and taking into account the ecological impact of our activities. Everything is to be created. Further than this, a whole new mentality has to be developed: a mentality that implies to rebuild a strong link between the communities and people as well as a respect towards nature. Against the individualistic, consumerist and competition that capitalism advocates, we have to push for solidarity, the better distribution of the wealth and think the social interactions between humans as more valuable that the accumulation of material goods. For this reason, the organization of the youth and of society is today more important than ever.
Let’s organize local councils working outside of the state systems, let’s build cooperatives, let’s take back the control on our local economy! By uniting and getting back the power to the people we will then be able to solve the ecological crisis.
Alone we are nothing, but together nothing is impossible!

Our statement:
"25th September Global Climate Strike: Greetings from Rojava to Fridays For Future youth of the world!

Our campaign members, together with different local youth groups, will as well take actions here in Rojava.
➡ Find a solution at once, or there will be no future at all!
As revolutionary ecologists and militants, we share the great concerns of Friday For Future on the climate crisis as expressed in their call (https://fridaysforfuture.org/september25/) and affirm together with them: “the coming months and years will be crucial” to find a solution to end the global destruction and exploitation of nature by humans! Especially because we are based in North-Eastern Syria – that is said to be one of the place that will suffer the most from climate change in the next decades – we experience and understand the urgency of the situation: “We need to act now”!

The ecological situation and ideology of the Rojava Revolution is developed in this inspiring presentation by our comrade Viyan Qereçox, who participated in the work of Make Rojava Green Again during her time in Rojava. It gives a great overview of the reality and of the challenges of Rojava today.
The Kurdish democratic revolution in Rojava captured international attention in the wake of the heroic defense of Kobane from ISIS. This multi-ethnic, femini...

Since the beginning of the democratic and ecologic revolution of North-Eastern Syria, the Women's Movement has played an vanguard role in the topic of ecology, more than any other institution.
One of their great projects is the only-women's village JINWAR, where the women have been doing research on wild medicinal plants and now practice naturopathy, producing medicine from herbs and everything that nature has to offer.
Their health center "Şifa jin" welcomes all residents in and around Jinwar and beyond.

Since the occupation in 2018, Turkey and its mercenaries have felled and plundered most of the famous olive trees in the Afrin region.
As a result of Operation Olive Branch in early 2018, Canton Afrin became part of the Turkish occupation of Northern Syria and many people had to flee and live now in refugee camps.
Those refugees have now planted flowers and trees in their camps and transformed the places into beautiful gardens.

Our contribution to the ecological revolution: Make Rojava Green Again
We, the Internationalist Commune of Rojava, want to contribute to the ecological
revolution in Northern Syria. To this end, we have started the campaign “Make Rojava Green Again”, campaign in cooperation with the Ecology Committee of the Cizire Canton. The campaign has three aspects:
Building up the Internationalist Academy with an ecological ethos, to serve as
a working example for comparable projects and concepts for the entire
society. The academy will facilitate education for internationalists and for the
general population of Rojava, to strengthen awareness and environmental
consciousness, pushing to build up an ecological society.
Joining the work of ecological projects for reforestation, and building up a
cooperative tree nursery as part of the Internationalist Academy.
Material support for existing and future ecological projects of the Democratic
Self-administration, including sharing of knowledge between activists, scientists and experts with committees and structures in Rojava, developing a long-term perspective for an ecological Northern Syria Federation.
The first two concrete projects of the “Make Rojava Green Again” campaign are:
Realization of the concepts of an ecological life and work in the Internationalist Academy, partly with the building up a nursery as a part of the Academy. In the spring of 2018, we will plant 2,000 trees in the area of the academy, and 50,000 shoots in the nursery.
Practical and financial support for the Committee for Natural Conservation in the reforestation of the Hayaka natural reserve, near the city of Derik, in Cizire Canton. Over the next five years, we plan to plant more then 50,000 trees along the shores of Sefan Lake.
The collective work in the nursery will also be a part of the education in the
internationalist academy, as well as a concrete expression of solidarity with the
communes, institutions, and structures of the population.
