What a weekend at convention. Oaktree Institute showed up with two sessions, a room with some of the most respected leaders in the American Muslim nonprofit space, and conversations that we believe will stay with attendees long after they left the building.

On Saturday, Oaktree Executive Director Rami Kawas moderated a powerful panel on Nonprofit Management in the World of AI, joined by Senior Strategist Mohammad Hasan and an exceptional group of organizational leaders including Sheriff Ahmed of MAS NY, Rasha El-Haggan of Tarbiyah Academy, Dr. Saima Azfar of ICNA Relief, Naeem Muhammad of Islamic Relief USA, and Edward Ahmed Mitchell of CAIR. Together they tackled the real questions: how AI is reshaping Islamic institutions, what is actually working on the ground in 2026, and what every nonprofit leader needs to start doing right now. The room was packed, the dialogue was honest, and the energy matched the moment.

Sunday brought a different kind of depth. Rami Kawas and Mohammad Hasan were joined by Sheikh Mohammad Elshinawy for a session on Leadership that Unites, Not Divides: exploring how Muslim leaders can navigate difference, manage conflict rooted in ikhtilaf, and build the kind of collaborative, principled leadership our communities genuinely need. It was grounding, practical, and long overdue.

Two sessions. Two different dimensions of what it means to lead well in 2026. We are grateful to everyone who joined us, engaged with us, and challenged us. This is the work and we are just warming up.

The next generation of Muslim leaders won’t build themselves. 🌙

These blessed ten days are an opportunity to invest in something that will outlive all of us:
leaders who will guide our masajids, nonprofits, schools, youth programs, and communities with clarity, integrity, and excellence.

At Oaktree Institute, our Youth Leadership Summits are designed to equip young Muslim leaders with the tools, mentorship, and vision they need to serve the Ummah for years to come.

But we cannot do it without your support.

In these sacred days of Dhul Hijjah, your donation is more than a gift—it is an investment in:
✨ Future community leaders
✨ Stronger Muslim institutions
✨ A generation prepared to lead with purpose

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.”

Help us build leaders who will benefit the Ummah long after these ten days have passed.

We’re excited to share that the team will be joining this year’s convention in Baltimore—and we would love to see you there.

Over the weekend, our team will be leading two timely conversations focused on some of the biggest questions facing Muslim organizations and leaders today: navigating AI, strengthening collaboration, and building leadership that brings communities together instead of pulling them apart.

We hope to see you there!

The Oaktree Institute family is heartbroken and shaken by the horrific shooting that took place yesterday at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Three innocent lives were taken in this senseless tragedy: Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad. We mourn alongside their families, their loved ones, and the entire San Diego Muslim community as they navigate unimaginable grief.

For more than a decade, Oaktree Institute has partnered with hundreds of masajid, Islamic schools, and community centers across the country. These institutions are not just buildings — they are the heart of our community, the places where we pray, learn, grow, and raise our children. To see a house of Allah attacked so violently is devastating.

Mosques are meant to be sanctuaries of worship, peace, and safety. The rise in anti-Muslim hate and dehumanizing rhetoric continues to create real-world harm, and moments like this remind us how essential it is for leaders to prioritize the protection, safety, and well-being of their communities. This responsibility is one of the most sacred trusts of leadership.

We unequivocally condemn this act of violence and stand in unwavering solidarity with the San Diego Muslim community and with every Islamic center and school working tirelessly to serve and protect their people.

We ask Allah swt to grant the victims the highest levels of Jannah, to envelop their families with patience and healing, and to safeguard our communities from hatred, violence, and fear.

Oaktree Institute remains committed to supporting the leaders, institutions, and communities who carry this work every day. We grieve with you. We stand with you. And we will continue to serve alongside you.

As we enter these blessed days, we invite you to invest in something our communities urgently need today:
The next generation of Muslim leaders.

Across the country, Muslim youth are searching for purpose, direction, confidence, and meaningful guidance in an increasingly difficult world. At the same time, our communities desperately need principled young leaders prepared to serve with clarity, strength, and Islamic values.

This is why Oaktree Institute exists.

Through our Youth Leadership Summit, we bring together young Muslims from across the country for an immersive experience focused on leadership, service, personal development, communication, teamwork, and Islamic character.

These summits are designed to do more than inspire.
They are designed to help shape future community builders, nonprofit leaders, organizers, educators, and changemakers.

The future of our communities depends on who we invest in today.
