The Oaktree Institute family is heartbroken and shaken by the horrific shooting that took place yesterday at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Three innocent lives were taken in this senseless tragedy: Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad. We mourn alongside their families, their loved ones, and the entire San Diego Muslim community as they navigate unimaginable grief.
For more than a decade, Oaktree Institute has partnered with hundreds of masajid, Islamic schools, and community centers across the country. These institutions are not just buildings — they are the heart of our community, the places where we pray, learn, grow, and raise our children. To see a house of Allah attacked so violently is devastating.
Mosques are meant to be sanctuaries of worship, peace, and safety. The rise in anti-Muslim hate and dehumanizing rhetoric continues to create real-world harm, and moments like this remind us how essential it is for leaders to prioritize the protection, safety, and well-being of their communities. This responsibility is one of the most sacred trusts of leadership.
We unequivocally condemn this act of violence and stand in unwavering solidarity with the San Diego Muslim community and with every Islamic center and school working tirelessly to serve and protect their people.
We ask Allah swt to grant the victims the highest levels of Jannah, to envelop their families with patience and healing, and to safeguard our communities from hatred, violence, and fear.
Oaktree Institute remains committed to supporting the leaders, institutions, and communities who carry this work every day. We grieve with you. We stand with you. And we will continue to serve alongside you.
