The sclr (Supporting Community-Led Response) Co-Design Workshops concluded in Aleppo, Syria, facilitated and delivered by AWAT Development for CAFOD and its partner, SSCC.
Over four days, the workshops provided a space for collaborative learning and reflection, strengthening participants’ understanding of the sclr methodology while exploring how its tools and practices can be adapted to the local context. Particular emphasis was placed on putting communities at the centre of identifying priorities, designing initiatives, and leading locally driven responses.
The training explored practical principles and tools for supporting community-led initiatives, strengthening local capacities, building networks and collaboration, mobilising resources, as well as planning, follow-up, and continuous learning. It also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and reflect on how to move beyond supporting communities towards strengthening their capacity to lead solutions and responses grounded in their realities and priorities.
At AWAT Development, we believe in investing in local knowledge and capacities. The role of supporting organisations goes beyond delivering responses; it is also about creating the space, resources, and support that enable communities and local actors to lead change in ways that are responsive and sustainable.
Our sincere thanks to CAFOD and its partner, SSCC, for their trust and fruitful cooperation, and to all participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions throughout the learning and co-design process.
