Why are yacht crew volunteering in Lesvos, Greece?

For more than a decade, a refugee camp has existed on this Aegean island. Our partner runs a hospitality training centre for residents of the refugee camp, helping create pathways to employment for people forced to flee their homes.

Over the last year, yacht crew have helped teach courses in service, housekeeping, barista, mixology, and food prep – passing on their interior skills to camp residents who are keen to join Greece’s booming but understaffed hospitality and tourism industries.

June 16 - 26, we need yacht crew to help finish the school we’re building in Ghana.

We’re looking for volunteers who are comfortable with; sanding, painting, construction, engineering, or teaching kids classes.

This is the final phase of the project, and we’re putting the finishing touches on four new classrooms, plus building a playground at this school for disadvantaged kids.

So, if you’re keen for a project with a purpose, and want to work alongside some like-minded yachties and an epic local community, then follow the link in bio to find out more.

This project is run by our partners - a group of yacht crew who are going above and beyond to give kids in Ghana the best shot at a bright future.

‘The Shack’ wasn’t a great classroom for learning but the heart of this school lies in it’s teachers, not in it’s walls.

For years, David has been pushing the students to think big, despite their surroundings.

And while the new classrooms at ’s school will make learning easier, it’s the lessons these kids are being taught now that will last a lifetime.

We asked the crew in Ghana what was on their minds while they were on the tools, because while volunteering is a chance to help, it’s also an opportunity to reflect.

The yachting bubble is an easy one to get swept up in, so we’re always grateful for the perspective that undoubtedly comes from these projects.

The kids in Kokrobite are constantly focusing on what they have instead of what’s missing, and although we are helping build a school for them, we are the ones who are learning the most.

Smiles that say it all.

These kids have gone from damp and dark classrooms dubbed ‘The Shack’, to the safe, spacious, bright learning environment that children deserve at a minimum.

was on a mission to make this the baseline for the kids at their school in Kokrobite Village, Ghana, and we’re stoked to have supported them in doing so.

From digging the foundations to building the teacher’s desk, more than 15 yacht crew have worked alongside the local community to help complete the ground floor of this two-story building.

Now, the kids and teachers are settled into the first of the new classrooms, and they’re more motivated than ever.

This impact will last for generations, and it’s proof of what’s possible when the yachting industry uses its skills and resources to help people in genuine need.
