In 1897, the first ever Caritas was founded in Germany. Out of the suffering created by the two World Wars, the need for national Catholic humanitarian organizations arises and Caritas begins to grow. In Syria, the Council of the heads of the Catholic Churches founded (Caritas Syria) in 1954. With the beginning of the Iraqi war, Caritas played an important role in providing assistance to Iraqi re
fugees, particularly in Al-Jazirah region. In 2011, with the beginning of the war in Syria and to meet the growing need among the Syrian community, Caritas began to expand its capacity and centers in order to reach a larger number of beneficiaries without discrimination between sect, doctrine or religion. The number of Offices, centers and staff have increased to cover now five regions: Damascus, Aleppo, Homs, Coastal Area and Al Hassakah. Caritas Syria is always ready to intervene in emergency situations. Therefore, Since the onset of the Syrian crisis, Caritas has provided sustained assistance in emergencies. Caritas assisted IDPs from Ma'aloula, Dara'a, Kessab, Assyrian villages around Al Hasakah, Students of 'Ekrimah Al Makhzoumi School in Homs and Al Manar School in Damascus.These cases always come as our priority in order to be able to offer support to the neediest.
