Saiyar is a Voluntary initiative working towards the social development of street children in conflict-affected and fragile countries.
We are working specifically to address the issue of children on the streets, i.e. children who work on the streets but have a home to return to at night. The phenomenon stems from a multitude of different reasons but is usually more prevalent and serious in countries affected by war and other conflicts and crises.
Through education and awareness we hope to weaken this phenomenon and achieve our goal of a brighter future.
We’re doing weekly sessions in 8 town around Syria.
Most of these children are between the ages of 2 and 14.They are robbed of their childhood and deprived of the most basic human rights. They suffer from illiteracy, malnutrition, psychological trauma, diseases, physical disfigurements and are subjected to mental, physical and verbal abuse.
They are forced into:
Child labor
Stealing, begging
Human/Organ trafficking
Prostitution
Drug Dealing
Saiyar has developed a specialized education program which is continuously being adjusted to fit the children’s needs.
Due to the difficulties of enrolling them in regular schools, our volunteers started out by setting up spaces around public areas, such as parks, where the children gather and learn for a few hours each week.
Due to the success of the initiative, Saiyar was able to partner with social organizations that permit the use of their centers as teaching areas and is now expanding to five more city in Syria
Saiyar work closely with its Art therapists that are trained to pick up on nonverbal symbols and metaphors that are often expressed through art and the creative process, concepts that are usually difficult to express with words.
Art therapy is also used as form of expressive therapy using the creative process of making art to improve our children's physical, mental, and emotional well-being Children can increase awareness of self and others, cope with symptoms, stress and traumatic experiences; enhance cognitive abilities; and enjoy the life-affirming pleasures of making art.
One of our programs at SAIYAR is the awareness sessions we run with our children.
Awareness building is divided into different categories, some which are:
- Self Love
- Loving others and being compassionate with they friends and families
- Their Rights as citizens
- Respecting the law
- Hygien
- Nutrition
Awareness sessions are usually preformed as interactive plays or by using puppets and theatre.
Our mission is to build awareness and to influence the response to the needs of street children in equipping them with the proper tools to lead the lives they deserve.
Our visionis of a world where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We seek to develop their consciousness and opening new horizons in their lives by bringing lasting change through the practical education and care that we provide.
