In Syria, we have been on the scene since 2013. We do this by repairing damaged sections of the water and sewerage network so more families can access safe, clean water in their homes. We are also responding to people’s urgent needs by distributing cash. We are also working with people to rebuild their lives. We support farmers to re-start farming through trainings and distribution o
f seeds and animal fodder as well as repairing irrigation systems. We support bakers to start making bread again by rehabilitating bakeries destroyed by conflict. Our team continues to respond to emergencies and large-scale displacement by providing toilets, showers, and emergency food. We are working to support women to have a seat and a voice at the decision-making table in their own communities. This includes raising awareness on gender-based violence, and opening up spaces for women to raise their voices in the home and their communities We engage people living in poverty and affected by the climate crisis in our planning to enable them to adapt to climate change. We believe in embracing the local humanitarian leadership (LHL) approach. Globally Oxfam is one of several international organizations that have signed up to the Grand Bargain, Charter for Change and other agreements that push for the localization of humanitarian aid. At the onset of the cholera outbreak, we responded by improving the water and sanitation system, handing out hygiene kits such as soap and running awareness campaigns in schools and communities. During the last year, we supported over one and a half million of the conflict-affected population through life-saving and early recovery interventions. Globally, we are a movement of people, working together to end the injustice of poverty. Working with partners, we use a combination of practical tactics and innovation to deliver development programs, public education, campaigns, advocacy and humanitarian assistance in disasters and conflicts. From sanitation and clean water to get more girls into school, we won’t stop until every person on the planet can enjoy a life free from poverty. As an intersectional feminist ally, we believe in ending sexism and that women should be free of exploitation.
