Musicians, artists, activists, survivors, and families of the missing gathered last month in Damascus to “Sing for Those Who Are Gone,” in remembrance of those who passed away, and of the dream where the people of Syria once chanted for freedom, dignity, and justice.

Syrian artist Khater Dawwa performed during the evening along with a group of musicians. Participants wrote on the wall the songs that remind them of those they lost, and shared their reflections on freedom and justice today. Young people also spoke about how they see the current reality and about their role in changing it and shaping a better future for Syria.

Testimonies from families reveal the scale of daily suffering, amid the impunity enjoyed by the occupation and international silence over its crimes.

These violations come as part of an ongoing incursion since the fall of the Assad regime, affecting agricultural lands and crops, as well as targeting people’s livelihoods and daily lives.

يستمر الاحتلال الإسرائيلي في اختطاف شبان من محافظة القنيطرة في الجنوب السوري، دون معلومات عن مصيرهم.
شهادات الأهالي تكشف حجم المعاناة اليومية، في ظل الحصانة التي يتمتع بها الاحتلال والصمت الدولي عن جرائمه.

تأتي هذه الانتهاكات ضمن توغل مستمر منذ سقوط نظام الأسد، تطال الأراضي الزراعية والمحاصيل، إلى جانب استهداف الناس في معيشتهم وحياتهم اليومية.

هذه واحدة من آلاف قصص الاعتقال والاختفاء القسري التي لم تُكشف حقيقتها بعد، وما زالت عائلات كثيرة تنتظر خبراً عن أحبّتها.

لا عدالة دون كشف المصير، ولا يمكن إغلاق هذا الملف قبل معرفة الحقيقة ومحاسبة المسؤولين.

Listen to Zaher Olabi as he shares the story of his brother Hazem, his brother’s wife Duaa, their two children Hala and Hadia, and relatives who disappeared after being detained by the Assad regime, and whose fate remains unknown to this day.

This is not an isolated case, but one of thousands of enforced disappearance stories that are still waiting for the truth to be revealed. Many families continue to live in uncertainty, hoping for any news about their loved ones.

There can be no justice without knowing the fate of the missing, and this file cannot be closed without truth and accountability.

اجتمع موسيقيون-ات وفنانون-ات وناشطون-ات وناجون-ات وعائلات لمفقودين-ات في أمسية “غنّوا لمن رحلوا” يوم الخميس في دمشق، للتذكّر والتذكير بالراحلين والراحلات، وبالحلم الذي رفع فيه السوريون والسوريات أصواتهم من أجل الحرية والكرامة والعدالة.

غنى الفنان السوري خاطر ضوّا مع مجموعة من الموسيقين والموسيقيات خلال الأمسية، وكتب الحضور على الجدار الأغاني التي تذكّرهم بمن رحلوا، وعن رؤيتهم-ن للحرية والعدالة اليوم، كما شارك الشباب والشابات رؤيتهم-ن للواقع الحالي ولدورهم-ن في تغييره وصناعة مستقبل أفضل لسوريا.

كانت أمسية مؤثرة وصادقة، فتحت مساحة للتذكّر والتعبير واستعادة أحلام الراحلين، وأعادت التأكيد على أن المطالب والقيم التي خرج الناس من أجلها ما زالت حاضرة.

قبل خمسة عشر عاماً، مع بداية الحلم، خرج سوريون وسوريات إلى الشوارع، يواجهون القمع بالأهازيج والأغاني الفلكلورية، ويرفعون أصواتهم مطالبين بالحرية والكرامة والعدالة. كان الصوت آنذاك سلاحهم، ليقولوا إن الحياة أقوى من الخوف، وإن الحق لا يُقمع بالقوة.

اليوم، ورغم كل ما مرّ من قتلٍ ودمارٍ ونزوح، ورغم استمرار العنف في سوريا والمنطقة، لا يزال الصوت الحرّ هو ما نملك. صوتٌ يرفض النسيان، وينحاز للحياة، ويتمسّك بالحق في الحرية.

ندعوكم لحضور أمسية غنائية يُحييها الفنان خاطر ضوا بعنوان “غنّوا لمن رحلوا”، بمشاركة مجموعة من الموسيقيين السوريين.

Fifteen years ago, at the beginning of the Syrian uprising, Syrians took to the streets, facing repression with chants and folk songs, raising their voices to demand freedom, dignity, and justice. Their voices were their weapon, a way to say that life is stronger than fear, and that what is right cannot be silenced by force.

Today, despite years of killing, destruction, and displacement, and despite the continuing violence in Syria and the region, the free voice is still what we have. A voice that refuses to forget, that stands with life, and that holds on to the right to freedom.

We invite you to attend a musical evening by the artist Khater Dawa, titled “Sing for Those Who Are Gone”, with the participation of Syrian musicians.

We sing for those who are gone, and for those who remain,
so that the voice of the revolution stays alive.

The Syrian transitional government must assume its responsibility by ending sectarian incitement, launching transparent investigations, ensuring accountability for those responsible, disarming actors operating outside state institutions, guaranteeing the protection of all civilians without discrimination, and activating a genuine transitional justice pathway.
