📍 Roman Theatre of Bosra – Daraa Governorate
📅 31 August 2026
Culture brings us together, and dialogue builds peace. 💫
A cultural event was held at the Roman Theatre of Bosra in Daraa Governorate, with the participation of 67 beneficiaries, providing a safe and positive space for community members to connect, participate, and engage with one another, while contributing to social cohesion and peacebuilding.
The event included a range of cultural, heritage, and interactive activities, including traditional Dabke and folk performances, as well as a cultural quiz focusing on the heritage, customs, and traditions of the local area. These activities provided participants with an opportunity to reconnect with local heritage, exchange knowledge, and share aspects of their collective cultural memory in an engaging environment.
The event also featured an interactive cultural dialogue, where participants discussed the role of culture and heritage in bringing community members together and strengthening communication, as well as how cultural activities can create spaces for dialogue and understanding despite differences.
Participants also took part in a collective activity entitled "What Brings Us Together," highlighting shared customs, traditions, songs, proverbs, and values among community members. The activity strengthened a sense of shared belonging and demonstrated the role of common cultural elements in promoting social cohesion.
The Dabke and folk performances created a shared space for participation and interaction, providing young people and women with opportunities to actively engage in a positive environment that encouraged connection, relationship-building, and communication among community members.
The cultural and interactive activities also promoted values of mutual respect, acceptance of differences, dialogue, cooperation, and coexistence, linking culture as a space for expression with trust-building and positive community relationships.
Hosting the event at the Roman Theatre of Bosra added a meaningful cultural and symbolic dimension, highlighting the importance of using cultural heritage sites and community spaces to bring people together and transform culture and heritage into spaces for dialogue, interaction, and peacebuilding.
The event was implemented as part of the project "Empowering Local Communities: Youth and Women in Syrian Conflict Areas," funded by the German Federal Foreign Office through the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa) under the zivik program.
We believe that culture creates space for dialogue, dialogue strengthens trust, and trust is a foundation for more cohesive and peaceful communities. 🤝
