The Executive Director Babagari Baraya and team of Murmushi People’s Development Foundation (MPDF) on Tuesday paid an advocacy visit to the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) Adamawa State office, where they met with the State Coordinator, Barr. Khalipha M. Lawan, to explore avenues for partnership and enhanced community impact.
The visit aimed to introduce the organization, share its achievements, and discuss future plans that will contribute to sustainable development in communities of Adamawa State.
During the meeting, the Executive Director highlighted key projects successfully implemented by MPDF in the areas of education, WASH, peacebuilding, and livelihoods, noting the positive impact these initiatives have had on local communities. The ED also acknowledged the support of existing partners and emphasized MPDF’s commitment to fostering social change through inclusive and community-driven interventions.

Murmushi People’s Development Foundation Conducts Sustainability Check on Completed Projects in Adamawa

Date: 19 August 2025

As part of its commitment to accountability and long-term community impact, Murmushi People’s Development Foundation (MPDF) has conducted a sustainability monitoring exercise across Gombi, Michika, and Mubi Local Government Areas of Adamawa State. The visit, which took place from 13–17 August 2025, assessed the condition and continued use of renovated classrooms, WASH facilities, and adolescent livelihood projects supported by the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF).

In Gombi LGA, classrooms remain in active use, with one converted into a school library. The solar-powered borehole is functional, though some taps have been damaged, leading the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) to lock three of the four tap heads for preservation. Renovated toilets remain the most used by pupils. Livelihood beneficiaries, engaged in trades such as hairdressing, shoemaking, and barbing, reported mixed outcomes, with some making income while others faced challenges with low patronage.

In Michika LGA, while the borehole had stopped working, repairs were already underway. Classrooms are in full use, including one serving as a space for MPDF’s partner, CPPLI. Toilets remain functional and highly used. However, the adolescent livelihood committee had not convened, weakening oversight. Challenges such as indiscipline, theft, and low customer trust were reported, although hairdressing and barbing services continue to generate seasonal income.

In Mubi LGA, all renovated infrastructure, including classrooms, boreholes, and toilets, was found to be in use. Though the adolescent livelihood committee was inactive, some parents stepped in to support their children’s engagement. The hairdressing and makeup shop showed good reinvestment of profits, while the barbing and shoemaking shop was closed during the visit.

A highlight of the visit was the success story of Sadiq, a young refugee from Cameroon living in Michika. Trained in barbing under MPDF’s adolescent empowerment program, Sadiq faced setbacks after the theft of his shop’s equipment. Demonstrating resilience, he saved money, gained support from his grandfather, and reopened his shop, which is now attracting community customers.
Speaking during the exercise, MPDF’s Executive Director encouraged adolescents to remain patient, continue building their skills, and adopt new customer strategies. SBMCs and parents also pledged to strengthen their monitoring role.

This monitoring visit underscores MPDF’s commitment to sustainability, transparency, and community empowerment. By revisiting completed interventions, the foundation ensures that investments in education, WASH, and youth livelihoods continue to deliver long-term value to communities.

Murmushi Development Foundation Holds Board of Trustees Meeting to Review Progress and Strengthen Engagement
Date: 09/08/2025.
The Murmushi People’s Development Foundation convened its Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting on Saturday, to review the organization’s progress in 2025 and discuss strategies for strengthening its impact.
The Executive Director (ED) presented an overview of the projects implemented by Murmushi during the year, highlighting milestones achieved and the positive changes brought to the communities served. The presentation drew praise from the Board members, expressed deep satisfaction with the organization’s work and prayed for more funding and support from international partners.
A key point of discussion was the plight of Almajiri children, which drew strong concern from members. The Chairperson, Hajiya Turai, emphasized the need to integrate education into the Almajiri intervention. The Board agreed to seek partnerships with donors specializing in Almajiri-focused initiatives to strengthen Murmushi’s response in this area.
The meeting also explored new thematic areas. The ED highlighted available funding opportunities in research and appealed to Board members in the education sector to be ready to support the design and implementation of research projects.
Alh. Mohammed Buba Ali further raised the growing concern of child trafficking in Adamawa State, urging Murmushi to take action. The ED responded by assuring the Board that the organization, already part of an anti-trafficking network, would intensify efforts in this area to protect vulnerable children.
The Board also received a presentation from consultant Mr. Bwala, who had recently conducted a SWOT analysis of the organization. He underscored the crucial role of Board members in Murmushi’s growth, encouraging them to increase active participation beyond meeting attendance and to take stronger ownership of the organization’s vision and activities.
Alh. Mohammed Buba Ali proposed regular BOT retreat meetings to strengthen collaboration and keep the organization’s goals at the forefront. While the Chair noted that donor funding for such meetings is rare, the ED assured members that future proposals would seek to include budget allocations for Board activities.
The Board members pledged renewed commitment to Murmushi’s mission, promising to contribute more actively, explore new donor connections, and stand as champions for the organization’s causes.
