Introduction about Youth Initiative for Community Development. Youth Initiative for Community Development Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement Uganda (YICD) is a nonprofit making and Ethnic indigenous Community Base Initiative which was launched in 2019. Founded by a group of visionary young people with a holistic vision to empower and save humanity, YICD- is a youth, children and women driven initiative
that simultaneously addresses fundamental challenges facing local communities related to human rights and democracy building, peace, justice and reconciliation, adolescent reproductive health, education, youth economic empowerment, crime prevention and leadership development. Youth Initiative for Community Development was founded in 2019 by the below members namely Pascal Bida Hassen, Matata Dickson, Wesley Kajobe. How Youth Initiative for Community Development Came to Existence. Youth initiative for Community Development came into existence after realizing that there is a great need to address the fundamental challenges facing local communities related to Human rights and democracy building, peace, justice and reconciliation, adolescent reproductive health, education, youth economic empowerment, vulnerable people, crime prevention and leadership development within the settlement camps and thus is done by the youth in the Community. Reduce suffering and providing help for those who have undergone through traumatic disasters and are in recovering and rebuilding phases. Making sure the correct aid is being given to appropriate people by conducting and distributing basic necessities such as soap, clothing, . Humanitarian Emergency Assistance. Educating our youths by providing services and leadership to meet the emerging needs of young people and their families in our community. Creating opportunities for youth to discover and express their abilities and skills by empowering them in their decision making. Making youths aware in media and education and raise their issues and social difficulties and rescuing them from cruelty/violence and protecting their rights. General Objectives:
To foster and develop increased learning and development opportunities for young people by encouraging and supporting them to contribute, steer initiatives and lead their own youth-led projects. To build strong relationships with organization’s that share our aims, thereby further increasing the capacity of young people to build on their skills and aptitudes for their own personal growth and their community’s long term success and development
To generate in young people a sense of responsibility and ownership for the actions they undertake and to develop their citizenship and involvement in their communities. To promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of young people in the community, particularly those who are at risk of social exclusion by associating together volunteers and organization’s through social work and training related opportunities in a common effort to advance education and training, protect health, relieve poverty, sickness and distress. Civic responsibility among young people: YICD-Rhino Camp Refugee settlement Uganda is striving to instill a sense of civic responsibility in youth by engaging them in community service activities and showing youth the real-life consequences of violence and the benefits of constructive civic engagement and responsible citizenry. Maintaining of the Community Access Road: Road maintenance means preserving and keeping road structures as near as possible in their original state for easy access of vehicles to the communities. It consists of correcting deficiencies that have developed as a result of use and taking steps to prevent the development of other deficiencies. It also comprises the activities to keep;

Domestic violence: This program aims to create change in the attitudes, behavior, and practices that perpetuate violence against women and girls in Uganda. We collaborate with duty bearers in key sectors such as the police, health workers, legal officers, judicial officers, prosecutors, schools, community groups, men, and education institutions. Social and economic empowerment: We work with young people to close the unemployment gap in Uganda by empowering them to engage in income generating schemes and equipping them with concrete skills like tailoring, jewelry making, knitting, baking, poultry, goat rearing, and agriculture among others to improve their incomes. Democracy and Human Rights: Greater and quick access to justice to indigent and marginalized young people in Uganda; Deep understanding and strong support for human rights, as the basis of peaceful co-existence and development. Sexual and reproductive health/HIV: Improved care and support of for young people infected by HIV & AIDS; Increased knowledge on HIV & AIDS prevention mechanism among the young people; Increased access to information on drug. Youth activism: Youth, given the opportunity to work alongside adults who are willing to manage their own power, can lead activist communities and organizations. Youth voice in activism is important because it helps decision-makers develop and implement innovation initiatives that improve access to education for all without leaving anyone behind. Community Awareness: Educating communities on child abuse prevention and building awareness of the context of the problem as well as solutions to it is a big part of what YICD does. We are statewide leader in child abuse prevention programs. Youth development through recreation: Like culture and art, recreation leisure and sports activities play an important role in community. Their many benefits include improving the health and well-being of individuals, contributing to the empowerment of individuals, and promoting the development of inclusive communities.
