We strongly condemn the horrific killing of innocent civilians in Abiemnom County, which has reportedly claimed the lives of 169 people following an attack by armed youth from Unity State.

This kind of massacre is devastating for a country that is already deeply divided and struggling to heal from years of conflict. The loss of so many innocent lives is not just a tragedy for the families and communities directly affected, but a painful setback for our collective efforts toward peace, reconciliation, and stability.

There is no justification for targeting civilians. Every life lost is a reminder of how fragile peace remains and how urgently we must protect it. We call for full respect of human rights and for the immediate protection of civilians, especially in vulnerable communities that continue to face threats of violence.

We further call on the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into this atrocity. Those responsible must be held accountable and brought to justice. Impunity only fuels further violence, while accountability is essential for restoring trust and preventing future bloodshed.

At this difficult moment, we stand in solidarity with the people of Abiemnom County and all those who are mourning. Our country deserves peace, security, and the protection of every citizen without exception.

Community Peace Initiative Organization Participates in SSYPF Workshop on Youth Capacity Building in Peacebuilding:

As a proud member of the South Sudan Young Peacebuilders Forum (SSYPF), CPI was privileged to take part in a one-day workshop organized by PAPA: Pan - African Peacemakers Alliance under the theme: “Streamlining Capacity Building for Youth in Peacebuilding.”

The workshop took place on 25th June 2025 at UniPod, University of Juba, bringing together youth-led organizations, activists, and peacebuilders committed to shaping a peaceful and inclusive South Sudan.

We joined fellow members to reflect, learn, and share experiences on how to strengthen youth participation and leadership in peacebuilding processes. The event reinforced our shared belief that meaningful youth engagement is key to achieving sustainable peace.

CPI remains committed to empowering young people with the tools and platforms they need to drive change in their communities.

Community Peace Initiative Organization participated in the AU-CSO Strategic Dialogue in Addis Ababa:

From June 11th to 13th, we were glad to take part in the AU-CSO Strategic Dialogue and Mediation on South Sudan in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

It was a meaningful space to reflect on where we are as a country, and how civil society can continue pushing for peace, accountability, and unity. As CPI, we shared our experiences from the ground especially the role of youth and communities in local peacebuilding and mediation.

We’re thankful for the chance to connect with other organizations and partners who are committed to a peaceful South Sudan. The road is still long, but we’re walking it.

Happy International Day of Peace

Today, we come together under the theme "Nurturing a Culture of Positive Peace: Our Collective Responsibility" to reflect on the importance of fostering peace in our communities, nations, and the world.

Positive peace is more than just the absence of conflict, it is about building societies where justice, equality, and opportunity flourish. It's about each of us taking responsibility to promote understanding, tolerance, and collaboration, ensuring that peace becomes a shared reality for all.

Let’s celebrate this day by making a commitment to peace in our words, actions, and everyday lives. Together, we can nurture a culture of lasting peace, where every individual can live in dignity and harmony.
