President Salva Kiir has signed the country’s Heads of State Initiative Compact on Water and Sanitation.
The signing of the Compact on Water and Sanitation marks a significant step towards improving the water and sanitation situation in South Sudan, which faces many climate-related, social and economic challenges.
The WASH Compact stems from the March 2023, Global UN Water Conference that was held in New York, calling on member states to, among others, increase budget allocations, initiate innovative sources of financing, and comprehensive plans for the construction of vital water and sanitation infrastructure.
The signing ceremony held in the President’s office today was attended by the ambassadors of Japan, Germany, Netherlands and country representatives of African Development Bank and World Bank.

Great job

Nyagoa Dak, a primary six pupil at Gaitut Primary School in Lankein payam of Nyirol county, says she is happy that she can now access food even at school. As a result, students are thriving with doubled numbers, improved academic performance, and motivated teachers.

The increase of number of students in Gaitut is truly commendable specially for girls - the school had 606 students, with 143 girls and 463 boys in 2023. However, after school feeding program, the number of students has more than doubled, with a total of 1297 students, including 539 girls and 758 boys.

Thanks to World Food Programme, Together, we are nourishing minds and shaping brighter futures.
