Our Story

In spite of the Independence recently attained and the establishment of a new Sovereign State, South Sudan as a new nation, in a postwar era, with yet some prevailing conflicts in some areas, is faced with numerous challenges, which among others include, socioeconomic problems, food insecurity, widespread poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, lack of infrastructure, respect for human right, insufficient and poor social services, like schools, health facilities and limited access to safe drinking water among others. to realize its objectives.

For several years, the people of South Sudan have been struggling for freedom, justice and equality, fighting against marginalization, oppression and underdevelopment.

In spite of the Independence recently attained and the establishment of a new Sovereign State, South Sudan as a new nation, in a postwar era, with yet some prevailing conflicts in some areas, is faced with numerous challenges, which among others include, socio-economic problems, food insecurity, widespread poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, lack of infrastructure, respect for human right, insufficient and poor social services, like schools, health facilities and limited access to safe drinking water among others.

These are pressing issues, real problems that need real solutions and practical approaches that can provide realistic and lasting solutions, in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In order to address these issues, it’s impossible to ignore the youth, since they are directly affected by these problems, especially unemployment, and their active participation is highly required to solve these problems, because they are young, active and energetic, and constitute the biggest segment of the population.

The youth are the cornerstone of any nation, the leaders of tomorrow and they play an active role in the development of a nation, since they make up the majority of the labor force, required to produce food, goods, provide services, protect and defend the country.

However, as a consequence of the protracted civil war that culminated in the signing of the CPA, and post CPA conflicts, most of the youth, especially in the country side hardly have a formal education because their schooling was interrupted by the war and other conflicts, schools were destroyed and the education system was undermined.

The particular scenario in focus is the case Rumbek of Western Lakes State, were many youth are idle, illiteracy and ignorance because they are not actively engaged in productive activities and majorities don’t have formal education or productive life skills that can be utilized to generate income, as a source of their livelihood.

There is therefore an overwhelming need to address and curb this idleness by establishing and developing youth by establishing cooperative society that will help the youth and the country at a large, such as introduction of new farming method, educational facilities, to empower the youth through education, capacity building and life skills development, with more emphasis on income generating skills and activities, such as, agriculture, poultry, animal husbandry, brick making, carpentry, masonry, small business training, entrepreneurship and microfinance, to economically empower the youth, create employment opportunities and gradually improve the welfare of young men and women and the living conditions of the households and the community as a whole.

Improving the livelihood of young men and women will have a direct impact on the welfare of the entire community for the better, since most of the community members, especially the children and the elderly rely on the youth for their survival, because they are regarded to be in their most productive stage of life, especially here in South Sudan where the protracted civil war has laid a great burden of a huge number of dependents upon the youth and women.

Additionally, there is also need to provide recreational facilities, so as to encourage young men and women to actively participate in recreational activities, such as, sports, to promote togetherness and harmony amongst the youth, productively keep them from being idle, while also identifying and developing young talent.
