Securing the Future of Public Health in South Sudan
Rise Initiative for Women's Right Advocacy (RiWA) is honored to attend the critical Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting on HIV/TB Prevention and RSSH/Matching Funds for the GC8 application process.
National data shows that vulnerable populations especially the Key and Vulnerable Population continue to face disproportionate public health and systemic barriers and therefor there is a need to prioritize interventions to ensure equitable health service delivery.

This meeting is a vital milestone for change, and it matters because we are dismantling health disparities and bringing grassroots realities to the table to ensure national HIV/TB prevention strategies are accessible, survivor-centered, and non-discriminatory. Securing healthcare infrastructure.

We were able to have discussions on Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH) as a critical element to filling institutional gaps, stocking essential supplies, and training frontline health workers.

Our team had a presentation focused on unlocking vital funding by strategizing around Matching Funds to ensure that international health grants are maximized to build long-term, sustainable medical and psychosocial support systems in our communities.
True health equity requires structural accountability. We look forward to working alongside fellow civil society leaders, government duty-bearers, and health experts to turn policy into life-saving grassroots accessibility.

Stay tuned as we follow-up and share updates from this crucial convening.

“When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and seeds of hope.” Prof. Wangarĩ Maathai
Today at RIWA, we are drawing inspiration from the legendary Prof. Wangarĩ Maathai a fearless Kenyan social, environmental, and political activist who proved that grassroots action can shake the world.
As the visionary founder of the Green Belt Movement, she pioneered an environmental revolution. Her work seamlessly connected tree planting, environmental conservation, and the advancement of women's rights.
In 2004, her relentless dedication to sustainable development, democracy, and peace made history when she became the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Her legacy reminds us that protecting our planet and empowering women go hand-in-hand.
Let's continue to plant hope, foster sustainability, and lift each other up. What small action are you taking today to protect our environment? Let us know in the comments below

Global Day of Parents serves as a reminder of the vital role families play and underscores the importance of investing in nurturing, playful parenting.
Since the 1980s, the important role of the family has increasingly come to the attention of the international community. The General Assembly adopted a number of resolutions and proclaimed the International Year of the Family and the International Day of Families.

Emphasizing the critical role of parents in the rearing of children, the Global Day of Parents recognizes that the family has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of children. For the full and harmonious development of their personality, children should grow up in a family environment and in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding.

Designated by the General Assembly in 2012, Global Day of Parents provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents for their "selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship.

Eid al-Adha Mubarak from RiWA South Sudan!
On this sacred and blessed occasion of Eid al-Adha, the Initiative for Women's Right Advocacy (RiWA) extends our warmest greetings to all our Muslim brothers, sisters, partners, and the entire community across South Sudan and beyond.
Eid al-Adha represents the profound values of sacrifice, deep devotion, and ultimate compassion. As families gather to share meals and blessings, let us reflect on how we can sacrifice our biases to uplift the vulnerable, stand by the marginalized, and build a more inclusive society where everyone is treated with absolute dignity and equality.
May the spirit of this holy holiday bring healing, unity, and lasting peace to our nation 🇸🇸. Let us remember to look out for one another, protect the rights of women and marginalized groups, and extend kindness to those who need it most.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful, safe, and deeply blessed Eid holiday

Working for a Healthier South Sudan with RIWA
At RIWA, we are fully committed to Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. We believe that ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all ages is essential to strengthening our communities.
Progress is happening globally, and it inspires our mission right here in Juba:
The global maternal mortality ratio dropped from 228 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2015 to 197 in 2023.
To meet the global target of 70 deaths per 100,000 live births, nearly 700,000 deaths must be prevented between 2024 and 2030. RIWA is determined to help bridge this gap locally.
Skilled assistance saves lives! The percentage of births attended by trained health professionals grew from 80% in 2015 to 87% in 2024.
RIWA continues to advocate for better healthcare access, maternal support, and community well-being. Together, we can create a healthier future for everyone.

Today, May 15th, joins the global community to celebrate the foundation of our society "our families"
This year's theme, "Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing," reminds us of our shared responsibility. Disparities in income, education, healthcare, and digital access heavily shape family life. They directly impact the opportunities available to our children.
At RIWA, we believe every family deserves the resources to thrive, grow, and protect their children's future.
Just a small tip of how you can celebrate today:
i). Spend Quality Time: Put away the screens and talk.
ii). Share a Meal: Gather around the table together.
iii). Lift Each Other Up: Call a relative you haven't spoken to recently.
iv). Support a Neighbor: Help a family in need within your community.
Let us appreciate, protect, and celebrate our families today and every day.
Celebrating from Juba, South Sudan, wishes you a Happy International Day of Families.
