Today, Women for Justice and Equality (WOJE), with support from UNICEF, concluded a five day facilitation of Non-GBV Risk Mitigation Training on Integrating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Nutrition in Raja county of Western Bahar el ghazal.

The training highlighted the importance of incorporating GBV risk mitigation measures into nutrition programming to ensure that humanitarian assistance is safe, accessible, and protective for women, girls, and other vulnerable groups. Without integration, nutrition interventions may unintentionally increase GBV risks, such as exposing beneficiaries to long queues in unsafe areas, overcrowded service points, and other protection concerns.

Together, we can create a nutrition response that is protective, effective, inclusive, and survivor-centered, ensuring that people in need receive support with dignity, safety, and respect.

Today, 4 June 2026, the Western Bahr El-Ghazal State GBV Area of Responsibility (GBV-AOR) partners, in close collaboration with the State Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare and with support from for Justice and Equality and UNICEF South Sudan, successfully concluded a two-day GBV Service Mapping and Referral Pathway Update Workshop at Pearl Hotel in Wau.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders, line ministries, and GBV-AOR partners providing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) response services in Wau County and Jur River County, included the Government, UN agencies, NNGOs and INGOs

The exercise focused on mapping available GBV services and updating the existing referral pathway to reflect current service providers, operational capacities, and available support services across the two counties. An updated referral pathway is essential for ensuring survivors of GBV can access timely, safe, confidential, and quality services. It strengthens coordination among service providers, reduces gaps and duplication in response, and enhances survivor-centred care through clear and effective referral mechanisms.

For Western Bahr El-Ghazal State, the updated referral pathway will serve as a critical tool for improving access to health, psychosocial, legal, protection, and security services, ensuring that survivors receive comprehensive support when and where they need it.

Statement in Commemoration of Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026

Theme: No Shame, No Stigma, Just Dignity

On this Menstrual Hygiene Day, Women for Justice and Equality (WOJE) stands in solidarity with conflict-affected women and girls across South Sudan, especially those living in displacement sites, rural communities, and areas affected by insecurity and humanitarian crises.

For many girls and women in South Sudan, menstruation is more than a health issue; it is a daily struggle shaped by conflict, poverty, displacement, and inequality. Thousands of girls lack access to sanitary products, clean water, privacy, and menstrual health education. As a result, many miss school, face stigma, experience shame, and are exposed to protection risks and harmful coping mechanisms.

Conflict continues to deepen these challenges. Displaced women and girls often manage menstruation in unsafe and undignified conditions, without adequate support or access to essential reproductive health services. This not only affects their health and wellbeing, but also limits their participation in education, leadership, and community life.

Women for Justice and Equality believes that menstrual dignity is a human right. No girl or woman should be excluded, discriminated against, or put at risk because of a natural biological process.

As we commemorate this important day, we call upon:

* Humanitarian actors and development partners to prioritize menstrual hygiene management in emergency response and protection programming;
* The Government and stakeholders to invest in affordable and accessible sanitary products, clean water, and safe sanitation facilities for women and girls;
* Schools and communities to create safe and supportive environments where girls can learn without fear or shame;
* Community leaders, parents, and men and boys to help break harmful stigma and support open conversations around menstruation.

We must ensure that every conflict-affected woman and girl in South Sudan can manage menstruation safely, confidently, and with dignity.

Together, we can build a South Sudan where periods do not prevent girls from accessing education, participating in society, or realizing their full potential.

# # # Break the stigma. Promote menstrual dignity. Support every girl.

๐Ÿค WOJE on the Ground: Standing with Newly Arrived Sudanese Refugees in Uganda

Our team recently visited the camp of newly arrived Sudanese refugees in Bweyale, near the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement in Uganda. During the visit, we engaged with cluster leaders, including representatives of the 17 clusters and inspiring women leaders from the community.

Together, we discussed the most urgent needs facing refugee families and explored ways to work together in delivering meaningful support and lasting impact.

At WOJE, we believe that every voice matters. These conversations are the beginning of a partnership grounded in dignity, compassion, solidarity, and community-led action. ๐Ÿ’™

We remain committed to supporting refugee women and families as they rebuild hope and resilience.

More updates coming soon.

On 30 April 2026, Muslim women leaders, advocates, and community stakeholders in Juba came together to chart a bold and transformative path forward. United in purpose, they committed to ending early marriage and FGM, strengthening Islamic Religious Education, and integrating GBV prevention with nutrition services.

The action plan outlines practical, community-driven solutions, including monthly coordination meetings, mentorship programs for girls after prayers, the establishment of resource centers, and economic empowerment initiatives for women and girls.

This is more than a commitment; it is a movement for dignity, justice, and opportunity. Join us in advancing legal reform, expanding access to education, and strengthening womenโ€™s leadership across communities.
