Community Awareness on Drug Abuse | Yei Chapter

The South Sudan Nurses and Midwives Association Yei Chapter participated in a radio talk show on Spirit FM Yei to raise awareness about the growing challenge of drug abuse among individuals and communities.

The discussion highlighted the causes, effects, and prevention of drug abuse, with particular emphasis on its impact on education, health, families, livelihoods, and community well-being. The session also explored practical measures that parents, teachers, health professionals, community leaders, and young people can take to prevent substance abuse and promote healthier lifestyles.

Drug abuse remains a serious public health and social concern. Through awareness, education, and collective action, we can protect our communities and empower young people to make informed and positive choices.

Together, let us build a healthier, safer, and drug-free South Sudan. UNFPA South Sudan Ministry of Health - Republic of South Sudan

Be aware, be alert, and cautious because Ebola is real. Ebola is a dangerous and highly infectious disease that spreads through direct contact with infected body fluids and contaminated materials. Watch out for symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, severe headache, and unexplained bleeding, and seek immediate medical attention if they appear. Protect yourself, your family, and your community by practicing good hygiene and following health safety guidelines.

AGAINST ALL ODD: A MIDWIFE WHO REFUSED TO SURRENDER.
At Juba Teaching Hospital, Midwife Laker Fiona proved that courage and skilled care can save lives. A mother in labor with a high-risk pregnancy refused a recommended Caesarean Section despite carrying a 4.8kg baby. When a life-threatening complication, shoulder dystocia, occurred during delivery, Fiona acted quickly and confidently, using her training and experience to safely deliver the baby. Both mother and child survived, reminding us that midwives are lifesavers, leaders, and guardians of the future. Through the Women Voice, Midwifery Leadership for Resilient Health Project, we continue to advocate for stronger support for midwives, urging communities, partners, and government to invest in maternal health and professional midwifery leadership across South Sudan.
