Happy and healthy childhoods are built on play.

Yet for many in South Sudan, conflict, floods and shrinking play spaces leave nowhere safe to run, laugh, or simply be children.

This , let’s commit to protecting every child’s right to play.

“He is improving now. When I see him eat, I feel hope again,” Nyakuon says.

Nyakuon fled her village in Akobo when fighting reached her home, carrying her 10‑month‑old son, Nyaban, to safety near the Ethiopian border.

For months, her family survived without food, clean water, or healthcare. Nyaban became critically ill. After returning home, Nyaban is recovering thanks to emergency treatment for severe malnutrition.

Too many children in South Sudan still face the same risks.

Peace, ensuring access, and increasing humanitarian support are critical to save lives.

When UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Liam Neeson visited a class in Juba, South Sudan, the boys had a clear message.

The girls in their school are smart. Strong. Full of ambition.

But more than half of girls in the country are married before 18, ending their education dreams.

Today, boys are speaking up to end child marriage and help keep girls in the classroom. Will you join them?

Floods took everything else.

For many children like Wictour, the climate crisis is not just rising seas or droughts.

Protecting the environment means protecting children families and futures.

We can all play our part.

“We hope for peace to be with our friends again, and return to school.” 🌱

Children displaced by violence returned to Akobo only to find that their safe spaces had been vandalized and looted. 💔

But amid the destruction, social workers remain steadfast, offering psychosocial support to children and families with thanks to the European Union, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.
