The Mental Health Leadership and Advocacy Program (MHLAP) training in Nairobi, Kenya organized by Africa CDC and Trust – UK bringing advocates from 17 African states with Mr. Achiek Deng Kuot, AcAchiek-Mabeny Dengrogram officer representing CACAPaDnd South Sudan to formalize the National MHPSS Strategic Plan (2025–2029) that marks a historic milestone for South Sudan, signaling a vital shift toward a holistic, policy-driven approach to well-being. "no health without mental health." By prioritizing invisible wounds alongside physical recovery, South Sudan is bridging a critical gap in the East African landscape and laying the foundation for a truly resilient nation, further strengthened by National organizations like the Christian Agency for Peace and Development (CAPaD) and other line CSOs across the country, whose grassroots work ensures that trauma healing is integrated into long-term mental health sustainability.
The belief that pain "comes alone and leaves alone" only worsens mental health outcomes by discouraging men from seeking help. As we implement this national strategy, we are not just building healthcare systems; we are fostering a culture where vulnerability is met with support, ensuring no South Sudanese mental health struggles in silence. MONITORING AND IMPACT ASSESSMENT VISIT
____________________________________________________________

A Remarkable Transformation
Walking through Mogiri yesterday, the atmosphere is unrecognizable from ninety days ago. What was once a flashpoint for road ambushes, revenge killings, and cattle raiding has become a corridor of quiet and communal interaction. The "Success of the Impossible" is visible in the eyes of the youth who have traded their weapons for dialogue through Peace Committees, Women, faith and community leaders engaging the Murle traders, Dinka Bor Youth, host communities and the residence in Mogiri.
Key Impacts Observed:
• Security of Movement: Road ambushes and criminal activities at the Mogiri center have effectively ceased.
• Restored Trust: Youth from the Dinka Bor, Murle traders and host communities are now engaging in peaceful co-existence, breaking the cycle of historical hostilities.
• Community Stability: The cessation of road ambushes, cattle raiding and diverse youth violence in Mogiri and long Juba – Bor road has allowed local markets and daily life to resume without the constant shadow of fear, children playing games and sports activities at the corners of the centre
The Road Ahead: Protecting the Peace
While the results are inspiring, Peace is a fragile garden that requires constant tending. As the current project phase nears its conclusion, we have identified critical sustainability gaps that must be addressed to ensure this harmony isn't temporary.
"We have already built the bridge with our partners; now we must ensure it is strong enough to weather the storms of tomorrow.
Gratitude and Partnership
This intervention was made possible through the unwavering support of the Canadian Embassy through Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). Their commitment to grassroots peacebuilding has saved lives and restored hope to Mogiri residence and the surrounding communities including Bilnyang and Mangalla.
Special thanks to LD and the entire team at the Embassy. Your partnership is the engine behind this progress. We look forward to discussing how we can address the remaining gaps and solidify these gains for the long term sustainability.

CAPaD with support from Canadian Fund for local Initiative, conducted and concluded a Peace Dialogue Symposium in Juba Central Equatoria targeting youth leaders and stakeholders from Jonglei state, Greator Pibor Administrative Area and the host communities with an aim to address and resolve strained recurring cycles of communal misunderstanding and localized conflict such as Cattle raiding, road ambushes along Juba-Bor road with Mogiri being the hot spot of regular incidences that have claimed many innocent lives and affected diverse travellers traveling along this highway.
While this fundamental project is implemented in Mogiri Central Equatoria state, the Symposium brought together in Juba both youth, stakeholders, the chiefs, Community and Faith/religious Peace Committees based in Mogiri to identify and address challenges, triggers and divers that continue to sustain violence conflict among both the Dinka Bor and the Murle who own the cow auction market being perceived as the caused resulting into road ambushes and cattle raiding. While many of these efforts often focus on high-level political engagement, the youth who represent the backbone of the community’s future frequently remain marginalized in peace processes yet they form more than 70% of the South Sudan population. The ToTs Peace committees (community and religious leaders are tasked to continue the awareness/outreach and dialogue in Mogiri area and surrounding communities including the Murle and the Jonglei communities to dismantle prejudices and build a foundation for long-term stability in Mogiri and along the Highways leading to both Pibor, Bor and Juba.

As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, Christian Agency for Peace and Development (CAPaD) extends heartfelt Christmas greetings to all communities, partners, faith leaders, women, youth, and peace champions.

Christmas reminds us that peace begins in our hearts, grows through love, forgiveness, and understanding, and flourishes when we choose dialogue over division and unity over conflict.
In this season of hope, CAPaD calls upon all communities to embrace peaceful coexistence, strengthen community bonds, and protect the dignity and humanity of one another especially the most vulnerable.

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.” — Luke 2:14
May this Christmas renew our commitment to building peaceful, inclusive, and resilient communities.
