In Yei and Magwi counties, AVSI continues to mentor smallholder farmers so they can apply the knowledge and skills they've gained to boost crop productivity, maximize yields, and build long-term food security.

Through hands-on training and targeted support under the Community-Driven Rural Development (CDRD) initiative, these farmers practice modern agricultural techniques daily. This guidance helps them transition from basic, rain-dependent subsistence farming toward thriving, climate-resilient agribusinesses.

Delivering starts with investing in .

Well-trained teachers can transform the learning experience, creating inclusive classrooms where every child is supported, including learners with disabilities.

Through the Education Cannot Wait - funded programme implemented by AVSI, 67 teachers have received training in effective and inclusive teaching methodologies, strengthening the quality of education in Kapoeta, .

The results are already visible: school enrolment has increased by 6%, attendance has improved, and more students are actively engaged in learning.

Every child deserves a safe home, a chance to learn, and a reason to smile. Through the , AVSI’s dedicated social workers go beyond the office. They step directly into homes and communities to walk alongside the children and their families.

During these home visits, the AVSI team spends meaningful time listening to caregivers, tracking school progress, checking health and well-being, and providing personalized guidance. These visits are more than routine check-ins, they build trust, foster resilience, and create a strong circle of safety and care for more than 350 children in Torit, Magwi, and Ikotos counties.

On this International Day for Universal Access to Information, AVSI turns to the power of data in agriculture. 🌾 Timely and accurate information empowers smallholders to beat climate uncertainty, combat , and improve their yields.

From Eastern Equatoria to Lakes State and Yei River County, extension services give farmer groups the information they need to succeed:
🧑‍ Over 6,000 farmers trained to boost local crop production
📊 20+ cooperative societies equipped with the tools to manage agribusinesses.
🌱 More than 30 local farmers' groups received agronomic knowledge

Sustainable change starts from the ground up!

In Lakes State, AVSI recently wrapped up a hands-on refresher training to equip farmers and women-led businesses with practical tools for long-term success in conflict-sensitive leadership and strong governance.

By taking a community-first approach: visiting farmers directly at their locations, AVSI brought critical skills straight to the fields.

The Impact
• Over 200 farmers trained across Wulu and Cueibet Counties
• Trained women actively hold leadership positions in their groups
• 70% of participants able to draft resource-sharing agreements

What’s Next?
AVSI continues to mentor these groups, including one-on-one sessions with women entrepreneurs, to close persistent resource-management gaps and ensure no community is left behind.

Today, on the occasion of , we turn our attention to : a country facing a complex and fragile path towards peace.

In many rural communities across the country, tensions and conflicts are driven by competition over resources such as land, water, and grazing areas.

That is why AVSI works together with farmers, herders, and elders to foster dialogue and build shared rules to prevent and address disputes over access to and use of these resources.

The initiative, led by AVSI as part of the RURALSS project and funded by the Netherlands Embassy in South Sudan, is one part of a broader effort to promote , , and in South Sudan.
