🌱Building Climate Resilience in Rumbek North, Lakes State✨️

Through Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Education System (BRACE) project, being implemented by HelpEducation Education South (HESS) and supported by Save the Children South Sudan with funding from Global Climate Funds and Global Partnership for Education school communities are now taking direct action to address environmental challenges affecting their communities in Rumbek North County of Lakes State.

HESS team procured and distributed environmental and agricultural supplies, to hard to reach schools in Rumbek North. The supplies include; vegetable seeds, fruits and non fruits seedlings and agricultural tools.

We have also conducted a practical training for the established school disaster risk reduction (DRR)/ environmental clubs, bringing together learners, PTAs and School Management Committees on tree planting and managing a sustainable schools garden.

The training has equipped the schools with skills on tree planting and maintenance, Mulching and watering to conserve soil moisture.

Another critical asset contribution from Mastercard Foundation through War Child Canada in South Sudan.

HESS is happy to announce that we have received another field vehicle generously provided by War Child Canada. This vehicle will be deployed to support our Pathways to Empowerment for Youth in South Sudan (P2E) Programme in Awerial County of Lakes State.

True sustainable impact happens when international partners invest directly in the capacity of local actors, particularly women led national organizations.

Awerial County presents operational challenges with terrains that becomes impassable during rainy season. This vehicle is now a game changer for the P2E programme, allowing us to safely navigate these harsh road conditions, conduct deep community outreach in remote areas and enhance our filed monitoring to ensure support reaches the most vulnerable people.

This support boosts our operational capacity, allowing us to scale our impact where it matters most. We really appreciate War Child Canada for their trust and commitment to local ownership.

🚙Grateful and Honored! HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS) received vital Assets Donation from Education Development Center (EDC)🌟

HESS extends its gratitude to the Education Development Cetner for donating a vital field vehicle and IT equipment. Rasing the capacity of Women-led national organization like HESS is a true Localization in action.

How will these assets drive the change?

1. The vehicle will be deployed immediately to navigate the tough terrains to support deep community outreach and field monitoring across hard to reach project locations.

2. The IT equipment will strengthening our operational efficiency to better serve our vulnerable communities.

HESS is committed to the principles of localization, sustainability and local ownership, and this generous donation will significantly boost our operational capacity, allowing us to scale up our impact where it matters most.

🎉 HESS @ 10 Years Anniversary Celebration 🎉

Yesterday, we proudly celebrated 10 years of transforming lives through literacy and empowerment at HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS).

It was a truly remarkable day—filled with joy, reflection, and gratitude. From our humble beginnings in 2015 to reaching over 89,980+ beneficiaries and supporting 50+ schools, this milestone belongs to every student, teacher, partner, and supporter who have been part of our journey.

The celebration at Imperial Plaza brought together inspiring voices, powerful stories, and a shared vision for a brighter future. 💙 It was a beautiful reminder of how far we’ve come—and the lives we’ve touched along the way.

Over the past decade, we have:
📚 Expanded access to Inclusive and Quality Education
👩‍🎓 Empowered young minds, boys, girls, children with disabilities, PTAs, and women
🏫 Strengthened and equipped schools with essential resources and strong leadership.

🌳 The green climate Legacy in Awerial: A tale of Shade and Hope!

In some local schools in Awerial County of Lakes State, children sat on arid earth, their minds fighting an intense battle: For years, these children have been learning outside in an open space under the scorching sun, struggling against heat and searching desperately for shade, due to insufficient climate-resilient classrooms.

Then a seed of hope was planted!
Under the Local Response Pooled Fund (LRPF) project, with funding from Save the Children, HESS launched the LRPF project in 19 schools in Awerial County, to address climate issues affecting the schools, where HESS procured and planted seedlings as a way of providing solution to schools' climate vulnerability.

Today, tiny fruit seedlings that were planted are now providing life-changing, cooling shade for learners from the supported 19 schools, particularly those at Gloria Girls School. These schools planted the seedlings which were procured by HESS with funding from Save the Children under the Local Response Pooled Fund, and nurtured them.
The trees are more than just a shade, they are growing fruits, creating natural outdoor learning spaces, and ensuring children can concentrate, excel and protected from the relentless heat.

This proves that addressing global challenges like climate can start with something fundamental as planting a tree in a school yard, turning a place of learning into a place of thriving.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Save the Children South Sudan for their generous support in the success of the LRPF project and we also appreciate the Local Response Pooled Fund leadership for the visionary commitment. Your work in guiding us has been instrumental, demonstrating the great power of locally-led humanitarian action which provide a sustainable change.
