🎓 Congratulations to our APEPT tutors on completing their training and earning their certificates!

With funding from the Global Partnership for Education through Save the Children International and the Ministry of General Education and Instruction, HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS) successfully delivered a two-week APEPT tutors’ training from 21 September to 2 October 2026.

On 5 October 2026, the tutors were honored at a certificate ceremony held at the HESS compound, presided over by Gabriel Deng, Yirol East County RRC Coordinator, and Abraham Mangar, Acting County Education Director, alongside other stakeholders.

👏 Their dedication to professional growth is helping strengthen teaching and expand learning opportunities for children. We celebrate their achievement and thank the county authorities and all partners who supported the training and ceremony.

📻📚 Taking the Back-to-School Message to the Airwaves in Kajo-Keji!

As part of the Education for All South Sudan (EFASS) Project, HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS) joined education authorities and learners for a live talk show on EBENEZER Radio 96.7 FM to promote the Back-to-School Campaign.

The discussion brought together two learners from Kajo-Keji Secondary School, the County Education Director, the County Education Inspector, and two HESS staff members to speak directly to parents, caregivers, learners, and the wider community.

The message was simple but important: every child deserves the opportunity to be in school, learn, and build a better future.

During the live programme, parents and caregivers were encouraged to support their children to return to school, attend regularly, and remain committed to their education. The discussion also highlighted the importance of giving both girls and boys equal opportunities to learn and succeed.

🎙️ The participation of learners made the conversation even more meaningful, as they shared their voices and encouraged fellow young people who may still be out of school to return to the classroom.

Through the EFASS Project, HESS continues to work alongside communities, schools, and education authorities to promote enrolment, retention, and access to safe, inclusive, and quality education.

🤝 When families, communities, schools, and education partners work together, more children can stay in school and achieve their dreams.

HelpEducation South Sudan joins International Rescue Committee South Sudan FY26 - FY28 Strategy Launch.

HESS was represented at the launch of International Rescue Committee South Sudan Country Strategy FY26 - FY28 at Pyramid Intercontinental hotel in Juba, under the theme "Partnering for Impact".

The event brought together government officials, donors, implementing partners and key stakeholders to reflect on shared achievements review IRC strategic priorities for the next two years and explore opportunities for deeper collaboration.

IRC FY26 - FY28 Strategy aims to strengthen support for conflict and climate affected communities through integrated programs in health, safety, economic wellbeing, and education. It also emphasizes expanding to reach new areas, driving locally led responses, and fostering long term resilience and sustainable development.

HESS recognizes the importance of such strategic engagement to exchange expertise, align goals, and advance shared initiatives aimed at improving living standards and education access across South Sudan, with a dedicated focus on women, girls and persons with disabilities.

Driving Impact where it matters most as HESS receives a new vehicle for the Building the Climate Resilience of Children and Education System in Rumbek North, Lakes State!

In remote areas, reaching every child and community with educational and Climate Resilient support is a mission that demands reliability. HelpEducation SOUTH SUDAN is happy to announce that we have received another major boost to our field operations: We have finally received a dedicated project vehicle to support scale up our implementation of the BRACE project in Rumbek North.

Overcoming the roadblocks in Rumbek North.
Navigating Rumbek North presents sever logistical hurdles that frequently jeopardize project timelines and filed operations.

1. Seasonal Flooding turn unpaved tracks into deep mud pits, making it impossible to travel even by motorcycle.
2. The rough terrain, eroded routes make key locations and BRACE supported schools almost inaccessible.
3. Far distance remote schools and communities face delayed supply deliveries and reduced schools monitoring visit.

Unlocking Direct Impact

With this reliable BRACE vehicle handed over to us by Save the Children, mobility constraints will no longer hinder our mission. It directly enhances the BRACE project across several critical areas.

I) Uninterrupted Access, where project officers will now access hard to reach schools, regardless of weather conditions.
II) Timely delivery of materials. Transportation of climate smart materials, teaching and learning materials will be easily transported to BRACE marginalized supported schools.
III) Increased frequency of routine monitoring, teachers and school children's support and community feedback engagement.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Save the Children South Sudan for their continued partnership support. We also deeply appreciate the funding provided by our donors, the Global Partnership for Education and the Green Climate Fund .

Together, we are breaking the geographic barriers and ensuring that every child in Rumbek North - Lakes State receives quality, resilient education no matter the climate challenges.

Celebrating 60 Years Globally and 20 Years Nationally for International Literacy Day (ILD) in Awerial County, Lakes State!

Today, HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS) joined the National Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Republic of South Sudan, State MOGEI, local leaders, development partners, schools and community members in Mingkaman, Awerial County to commemorate International Literacy Day under this year's theme, "Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity."

While today was a celebration, educational challenges remain in Awerial County:

1. Over 50% of Alternatives Education System (AES) facilitators lack formal training.
2. Climate shocks and flooding contiune to disrupt learning.
3. Thousands of girls and pastoralist youth remain out of school.

A shared commitment to change:

During the event, government officials and stakeholders called on donors and humanitarian partners to sustain funding for rural education infrastructure and teachers development.

Most inspiring was the response from chiefs, parents and community leaders, who pledged their commitment to sent out of school children, young mothers and pastoralist back to classrooms.

As the County Education Cluster lead in Awerial, HESS will continue working alongside our partners to support Education through provision of climate resilient classrooms, supporting teachers professional development and empowering women and youth with functional literacy.

HESS was grateful to participate in today's official launch of the APEPT at the National Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Republic of South Sudan premises.

What is APEPT?
It is the Accelerated Primary Education Programme for Teachers (APEPT) that condenses four years of Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP) into 2 years, to address the long-standing credential gaps caused by decades of conflict.
It bridges practical classroom experience with formal qualifications, preparing teachers to take the national Certificate in Primary Education (CPE) exams, opening future opportunities for the Accelerated Secondary Education Programme and teacher training institutes.

As an implementing partner of the GPE Girls Education Accelerator (GEA), HESS will now ensure the rollout of APEPT in Yirol East County, Lakes State.

We look forward to collaborating with teachers, development partners, and MOGEI to deliver a quality, inclusive, and safe learning environment for all.

📚 PATHWAYS TO EMPOWERMENT (P2E) PROJECT PARTNERS’ JOINT FIELD VISIT TO AWERIAL COUNTY, LAKES STATE

From 11–13 August 2026, representatives from the Mastercard Foundation, War Child Canada, Windle Trust International and HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS) conducted a three-day joint field visit to Awerial County, Lakes State.

The visit assessed the implementation and community acceptance of the Accelerated Secondary Education Programme (ASEP), a component of the Pathways to Empowerment (P2E) Project implemented by HESS, a Refugee-Led Organization.

The visit provided encouraging evidence of the programme’s progress:

✅ Strong collaboration with local authorities
The team appreciated the high level of cooperation and coordination between HESS and county authorities. The active involvement of local leaders demonstrated a shared commitment to expanding access to education and strengthening programme implementation.

✅ Strong acceptance among learners and tutors
Learners and tutors at the two ASEP centres warmly welcomed the programme and expressed their commitment to continued participation. Their enthusiasm demonstrated ASEP’s relevance in addressing the educational needs of learners in Awerial County.

✅ Effective communication and coordination
The team observed clear and effective communication between HESS and tutors at the ASEP centres. This is essential for smooth programme delivery and timely responses to emerging needs.

✅ Stronger partnerships with county authorities
The visit emphasized the importance of sustaining the active participation of county authorities and education officials. Continued engagement and appropriate logistical support during joint activities will further strengthen these valuable partnerships.

Overall, the visit confirmed that ASEP is gaining strong acceptance among learners, tutors and local authorities in Awerial County. It also demonstrated the value of partnership, community ownership and locally led coordination in expanding access to quality education for learners affected by challenging circumstances.

The visit concluded with a renewed commitment from all partners to strengthen collaboration and build on the progress achieved in Awerial County.

📢 PROMOTING LOCALIZED GENDER ACCOUNTABILITY TO ADDRESS INEQUALITY AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN HUMANITARIAN ACTION

With funding from UN Women and German Humanitarian Assistance,HelpEducation South Sudan (HESS), working in a consortium led by T**i Foundation, conducted a two-day workshop from 10–11 August 2026 to strengthen the meaningful inclusion of Women-Led Organizations (WLOs) in inter-agency and inter-cluster humanitarian assessment and planning processes.

The workshop responded to the continued underrepresentation of WLOs in humanitarian coordination structures. This is often caused by limited access to coordination platforms, inadequate institutional recognition, technical-capacity gaps and logistical challenges. As a result, humanitarian assessments may overlook critical protection concerns affecting women and girls.

Twenty leaders from Women-Led Organizations participated, including executive directors, heads of programmes, programme coordinators and project officers working in child protection, gender and inclusion, food security and livelihoods, and education.

Representatives from different humanitarian clusters facilitated sessions on cluster functions, mandates, operations, membership procedures and registration requirements. These sessions equipped participants with practical information to support their active participation in humanitarian coordination, assessment and planning processes.

Reflecting on the workshop, Alinda Brenda, a representative of a Women-Led Organization, thanked HESS, UN Women and T**i Foundation for bringing WLOs together to learn about opportunities for engagement with humanitarian clusters. She emphasized that inclusion could enable WLOs to access funding, build partnerships and contribute more meaningfully to humanitarian response activities.

In her closing remarks, Lucy Achiro, Chairperson of Women-Led Organizations in South Sudan, appreciated the participants and partners for their valuable contributions. She noted that many WLOs remain insufficiently represented in humanitarian clusters and highlighted barriers such as transportation costs, which can prevent organizations from attending coordination meetings.

HESS remains committed to advancing locally led humanitarian action and ensuring that Women-Led Organizations have the knowledge, opportunities and space to influence decisions affecting women, girls and their communities.

Together, we can build a more inclusive, accountable and gender-responsive humanitarian system.
