The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a milestone document adopted by the UN General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948. It outlines the 30 fundamental, inalienable rights that belong to every person on Earth

The 30 Articles of the UDHR Articles:

1-5: Right to equality, life, liberty, and freedom from discrimination, slavery, or torture.

Articles 6-11: Right to legal recognition, equality before the law, fair trials, and the presumption of innocence.

Articles 12-17: Rights regarding privacy, freedom of movement, asylum, nationality, marriage, and property.

Articles 18-21: Freedom of thought, expression, assembly, and participation in government.

Articles 22-27: Social, economic, and cultural rights, including work, education, and an adequate standard of living.

Articles 28-30: Right to a just social order and duties to the community.

Foreign Missions Condemn Deadly Attack on Aid Convoy in Duk

July 1st, 2026 (Juba)- Foreign embassies in Juba have strongly condemned the deadly attack on a humanitarian convoy in Duk County, Jonglei State, describing the assault as an unacceptable attack on aid workers serving vulnerable communities.

In a joint statement issued following the June 29 incident, the embassies of Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union stressed that humanitarian personnel must never be targeted under any circumstances. The diplomatic missions called for a prompt investigation and urged authorities to ensure those responsible are identified and held accountable.

According to the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in South Sudan, five humanitarian workers were killed in the attack. Three staff members of the John Dau Foundation and a driver also sustained serious injuries when armed assailants ambushed the convoy.

Local authorities reported an even higher casualty toll, stating that at least 17 people were killed and nine others injured. The attack occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. along the road between Payuel Payam and Pajut in Panyang Payam, an area within Duk County.
The convoy was reportedly returning from a humanitarian training workshop organized by the World Food Programme (WFP) and Action Against Hunger when it came under attack.

The incident has raised renewed concerns over the safety of humanitarian workers operating in South Sudan, where aid agencies continue to provide lifesaving assistance to communities affected by conflict, displacement, and food insecurity.

Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called on all parties to respect international humanitarian law and guarantee safe access for relief operations.
As of the latest reports, authorities have not announced any arrests or identified those responsible for the ambush.

Investigations into the attack are expected to continue as national authorities and international partners seek accountability for one of the deadliest attacks on humanitarian workers in recent months.

Statement on the Opening Day of the 4th National Conference on Children in Armed Conflict
30 June 2026

June 30th to July 2nd, 2026 (Juba, South Sudan)

Distinguished Ministers, representatives of government institutions, development partners, civil society organizations, members of the diplomatic community, and fellow participants, On behalf of the Center for Peace and Advocacy (CPA), I am honored to present a summary of the proceedings of the opening day of the 4th National Conference on Children in Armed Conflict, taking place from 30 June to 2 July 2026.

The conference is organized by the Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare and the National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission (NDDRC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and development partners including UNMISS, UNICEF, Save the Children International, the Dallaire Institute, and Nonviolent Peaceforce.

The objective of this conference is to assess the progress made in protecting children affected by armed conflict, strengthen coordination among key stakeholders, identify existing challenges, and develop practical recommendations to prevent grave violations against children while advancing their protection, rehabilitation, and reintegration into society.

During today's opening sessions, participants reflected on the current situation of children affected by conflict, reviewed national commitments and legal frameworks, and discussed the roles of government institutions, humanitarian agencies, civil society organizations, and local communities in ensuring the protection of children's rights.

The discussions emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration, accountability, and investment in child protection systems to address both immediate and long-term needs.

The key outcomes from today's deliberations include a shared commitment to strengthen inter-agency coordination, enhance implementation of national action plans, improve reporting and response mechanisms for violations against children, and promote community-based approaches to prevention and reintegration. Participants also reaffirmed the importance of partnerships in delivering effective protection services and ensuring that no child is left behind.

As the conference continues, participants are expected to actively contribute their expertise, share practical experiences, propose evidence-based recommendations, and engage constructively in discussions that will shape concrete actions and policy decisions.

It is anticipated that the conference will conclude with a strengthened national commitment, clear recommendations, and renewed partnerships aimed at safeguarding the rights, dignity, and future of every child affected by armed conflict.

The Center for Peace and Advocacy remains committed to supporting all efforts that promote peace, protect children, strengthen community resilience, and contribute to sustainable peace and development in South Sudan.
