Peace begins with me, peace begins with you and peace begins with us.
By Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin, MP – South Sudan
My dear brothers and sisters of the 64 tribes of South Sudan,
I speak to you today with a message of unity, peace, and hope for our beloved nation. South Sudan is our home, our identity, and our future. It is the land of our ancestors and the inheritance of our children. It is the land of our homes where we live. It is equally the place where we will be buried in our graves. We must protect it not with division but with unity; not with anger, but with peace; not with hatred, but with love.
We come from many tribes, many cultures, and many languages, but we are one people under one flag. Our diversity should not divide us; it should make us stronger. A rope is strong because many small threads are tied together. In the same way, South Sudan will be strong when the 64 tribes stand together as one nation.
I want to encourage our people:
Let us not lose hope in our country.
Let us not lose hope in our future.
Let us not lose hope in peace.
Peace begins with me. Peace begins with you. Peace begins with all of us. If we speak peace, we build peace. If we forgive one another, we build a nation. If we work together, we build the future for our children.
To the youth of South Sudan: You are both the present and the future leaders, builders, and thinkers of this nation. Put down anger and pick up education and gain experience to carry out your job with success. Put down division and pick up unity. Your future is brighter in peace than in conflict.
To the elders: continue to guide us with wisdom.
To the women: You are the foundation of our families and our nation.
To the leaders: leadership is responsibility, unity, and service to the people.
Let us remember this always:
No tribe is greater than South Sudan,
No community is more important than peace. There is nobody's majority and nobody's minority,
And no future is better than a united nation.
Let us stand together, walk together, work together, and build together.
The future of South Sudan depends on unity, peace, hard work, and forgiveness.
May peace live in our hearts.
May unity live in our communities.
May progress live in our nation.
And may God bless South Sudan and all its 64 tribes.
