65 YOUNG PEOPLE. 4 SKILLS. 1 HISTORIC MILESTONE.

TEREKEKA HAS CELEBRATED ITS FIRST TVET GRADUATION!

📅 17 September 2026 | Terekeka, South Sudan

For the first time, 65 young people in Terekeka have completed Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and graduated with practical skills to help them pursue livelihoods, support their families and contribute to their communities.

Through the ASPIRE Project, ADRA South Sudan, with funding from Norway, equipped 65 youth in Terekeka with practical, market-oriented skills designed to create new pathways toward economic opportunity.

43 female graduates
22 male graduates

They trained in four practical areas:

✂️ TAILORING
⚡ ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
💇🏾 HAIRDRESSING
🔧 PLUMBING

But this graduation is about more than certificates.

It is about possibility.

It is about young people gaining skills they can turn into livelihoods.

It is about women and men building confidence, creating opportunities and looking toward a more productive future.

They came to learn.
They trained.
They practiced.
They persevered.
And today, they graduate.

Behind every certificate is a story of determination, hard work and hope for what comes next.

Today, Terekeka celebrates not only its first TVET graduation, but also a new generation of young people equipped with skills they can build on.

Reaching Where Support Is Needed Most!

The journey continues! Field staff from ADRA South Sudan’s Chukudum Field Office in Budi County are travelled to Nagishot, Loudo and Ngauro Payams to conduct school infrastructure assessments under the ASPIRE Project.

Despite challenging terrain and long distances, the team is going the extra mile to assess learning environments and identify infrastructure needs that can help create safer, more supportive spaces for children to learn and thrive. 📚🏫

From the field to the classroom, every assessment is a step toward strengthening education and supporting communities in hard-to-reach areas.

CHUKUDUM FARMERS EMBRACE BETTER VEGETABLE FARMING

In Chukudum, Budi County, Eastern Equatoria State, farmers are turning knowledge into action and their gardens into sources of food, income, and opportunity.

Through the ASPIRE Project, ADRA South Sudan, with funding from Norway 🇳🇴, is supporting farmers to strengthen their skills and adopt improved agronomic practices in vegetable production.

From land preparation and planting to crop management and harvesting, farmers are applying better practices to improve production, strengthen food security, and build more resilient livelihoods. 🥬🍅🌽

Adut’s Journey to Financial Independence

For Adut Ariik, a mother of four from Pagol Payam, Tonj North County, providing for her family was once a daily struggle.

In 2024, ADRA South Sudan supported the formation and training of a Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) in her community. After three months of saving, Adut accessed a 100,000 SSP loan, which she invested in flour, sugar, tea leaves, charcoal, a kettle and cups to start a small roadside tea and bread kiosk.

Today, her business is growing and providing a more reliable source of income for her family. She is also able to save through her VSLA, contribute to her children's school expenses, and provide three meals a day for her family.

“VSLA changed my life. I no longer wait for help. I work and my children eat every day.”

Adut has also trained two young girls to assist at her kiosk and hopes to expand her business by building a permanent structure, adding porridge to her menu and eventually opening a small shop.

Through savings, access to small loans and financial skills, women can turn modest opportunities into sustainable livelihoods and greater resilience for their families.

In Malakal, Upper Nile State, participants are gaining practical business skills to strengthen their livelihoods, increase self-reliance, and build more resilient futures.

Through ADRA South Sudan’s Protection programme, with support from UNHCR, participants are learning practical skills in small business management, financial planning, identifying business opportunities, and making informed decisions to support sustainable livelihoods.

This initiative demonstrates the value of linking protection with livelihood opportunities, helping people build confidence, strengthen their economic resilience, and pursue greater self-reliance with dignity.

For ADRA South Sudan through the support from UNHCR, investing in people’s skills means investing in stronger households and more resilient communities.

Because when people have the skills and opportunity to build their own future, communities become stronger.

Sometimes, one business skill can open the door to a new future.

Through business skills training under the UNHCR-funded Protection Project, ADRA South Sudan is supporting individuals and communities in Malakal, Upper Nile State, to strengthen their livelihoods and work toward greater self-reliance.
Participants are learning practical skills in business planning, financial management, customer care and income generation, skills that can turn ideas into opportunities and opportunities into hope.

Because protection is not only about safety. It is also about dignity, opportunity and the ability to build a secure and sustainable livelihood.
With UNHCR’s support, ADRA South Sudan continues helping communities in Malakal build resilience, expand economic opportunities and create a more hopeful future.

🇸🇸 ONE BALL. ONE COMMUNITY. ONE PEACEFUL FUTURE.

In Maiwut Town, Upper Nile State, young people are coming together through football to promote peaceful coexistence, social cohesion, and community unity.

Supported by DANIDA under the ACCESS Project, the youth football tournament provides a positive platform for young people to connect, build friendships, embrace diversity, and strengthen relationships across the community.

Beyond the competition, the tournament demonstrates the power of sport as a tool for peacebuilding, creating opportunities for youth to choose dialogue, teamwork, respect, and solidarity over division and conflict.

🏆 The greatest victory is not only on the scoreboard, it is building a community where young people can live, play, and grow together in peace.

Through initiatives like this, ADRA continues to support communities to strengthen resilience, foster peaceful coexistence, and create opportunities for young people to contribute to a more peaceful South Sudan. 🇸🇸

23 MILLION SSP SAVED. ONE YEAR OF DETERMINATION.

From small contributions to 23 million South Sudanese Pounds , the women of Nyamina VSLA Group in Kapoeta Eastern Equatoria state South Sudan, are showing what collective saving and determination can achieve.

After saving together for one year, the group has reached its sharing-out moment a milestone that celebrates not just money saved, but confidence, resilience and greater financial opportunities for women.

Through the ASPIRE Project, with support from Norway, ADRA South Sudan is empowering women and communities to strengthen their livelihoods and build a more secure future.

Today, Nyamina’s achievement is a powerful reminder: when women save together, communities grow stronger.

BUILDING PEACE STRENGTHENING, COMMUNITIES GROWING HOPE.

In Lobene, Magwi County, community members are coming together through peace dialogue to address challenges, strengthen relationships and promote peaceful coexistence.

Through the STRENGTH Project, implemented by ADRA South Sudan with support from DANIDA, community leaders, women, youth, returnees, host community members and other stakeholders are participating in open and inclusive discussions that create space to listen, understand one another and identify peaceful solutions to local concerns.

The dialogues are addressing important issues affecting the community, including land disputes between returnees and host community members, as well as conflicts linked to intermarriages in Magwi. By bringing people together to discuss these sensitive concerns openly and respectfully, the process helps promote understanding, reduce tensions and strengthen peaceful relationships.

These community-led dialogues are helping to build trust, strengthen unity and promote collaboration among community members. Every conversation is a step towards greater understanding, peaceful coexistence and a more peaceful future.

📚🌱 GROWING MORE THAN VEGETABLES: SUPPORTING HEALTHIER LEARNING

At Life Matter Adventist Secondary School in Ngauro Payam, Budi County, ADRA South Sudan is supporting the establishment of a school kitchen garden under the ASPIRE Project, helping strengthen the school feeding programme and promote healthier learning environments for students. 🇸🇸

With funding from Norway, the initiative supports schools to grow vegetables that can supplement meals, improve dietary diversity and encourage students and communities to embrace sustainable food production. 🥬🥕🌱

A thriving school garden is more than a source of food—it is a place where students can learn practical skills, understand the value of agriculture and see how communities can contribute to better nutrition and education.

When children are nourished, they are better positioned to learn, participate and thrive. 📖💚
