In order to grantee equity in health services delivery, there is a need to support and operationalize a one among the country's leading women hospitals across the country— The kiir Mayardit Women hospital in Lakes state had been delivering core health services package including Reproductive Health, Maternal and neonatal child health, ANC and Immunization coverage in Lakes state.

The decision did not only affect the health services delivery in lakes state, but it negatively affected the equity in access to health services in South Sudan. We called upon donors and the government to revise efforts of maintaining Kiir women's hospital in Lakes state.

Ministry of Health Declares Mpox Outbreak

Juba, 07 February 2025—The National Ministry of Health has announced an outbreak of Mpox in the country. This decision comes after the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) confirmed it on February 6, 2025. The lab tested a sample from a 31-year-old foreign national living at Kupuri Camp in Luri Payam, Juba, who showed symptoms like fever, a rash, and itching. His symptoms began on January 22, 2025.

The individual had recently travelled to Uganda, where there has been an ongoing Mpox outbreak since 2024. The type of virus, in this case, matches the strain currently affecting East Africa.

Mpox, or monkeypox, is a viral disease that can spread from animals to humans, mainly through contact with wild animals like rodents. It can also spread between people through direct contact with rashes or fluids from an infected person or through touching contaminated items like bedding.
