Reaching vulnerable families starts long before any assistance is delivered it starts with showing up in their communities. Our team is currently on the ground in Baidoa, Southwest State, working to mobilize communities and raise awareness about Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) registration with support from International Rescue Committee. For many households in Baidoa, MPCA is a lifeline, a flexible support that can be used for food, water, health, or whatever a family needs most. Our role is to make sure no eligible household misses out simply because they didn't know about it or didn't understand the process.

This is what community-led outreach looks like. 🀝

When drought comes to Baidoa and Hudur, communities in Southwest State have historically had little warning β€” and even less time to prepare.
That is the reality READO and our partners at Plan International Somalia are working to change through the WAHAFA project, funded by Welthungerhilfe
Over the past months, we have worked directly with communities, government officials, local leaders, women's groups, IDP representatives, and humanitarian partners in both Baidoa and Hudur to develop an Anticipatory Action Plan , a framework for acting before drought causes harm, not after.
This has meant long days in meeting halls, working groups, and community sessions. It has meant 750 community members learning about early warning systems for the first time. It has meant scenario planning workshops where local knowledge and climate data were brought together in the same room. And it has meant validation workshops where communities had the final say on what actions should be taken, and when.
The result is an Anticipatory Action Plan that belongs to the people it is meant to protect β€” validated by government, endorsed by stakeholders, and backed by a community-led taskforce that READO co-chairs.
Drought will come again. But communities in Baidoa and Hudur will be more ready than they have ever been.
We are proud of this work and grateful to every community member, government partner, and stakeholder who made it possible. 🌱

To mark the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, READO led the planning of a basketball tournament in Baidoa, bringing together young people from across the community to compete, connect, and celebrate peace.

Sport has a unique power: it breaks down barriers, builds trust, and reminds us that we are stronger together than apart. In a city that has seen so much hardship, moments like these matter.

This activity is part of our ongoing work under the ELEVATE Africa project, which uses sport, dialogue, and social cohesion to support the reintegration of at-risk youth and strengthen the bonds that hold communities together.

Thank you to our partners IOM Somalia and for making this possible.

More moments like this. More peace. More Baidoa.

Every child deserves the chance to learn β€” even in the hardest of circumstances.

In Baidoa's IDP camps, thousands of children have been displaced from their homes and communities. But displacement does not have to mean losing access to education.

With the support of Plan International in somalia and, READO is distributing essential learning materials across 15 Temporary Learning Spaces in Baidoa β€” reaching children across 12 IDP camps with the books, supplies, and tools they need to continue their studies with dignity and hope.

Education is not a luxury. For a displaced child, a pencil and a notebook are stability, routine, and a signal that someone believes in their future.

With support from IOM Somalia, READO is delivering Integrated Learning Activities (ILA) and case management support that empower vulnerable communities across Somalia.
The sessions focus on literacy and numeracy, life skills, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and psychosocial support (PSS). These components provide participants with practical knowledge, resilience, and pathways to self-reliance. By combining education, skills development, and psychosocial care, READO is creating a holistic and protective environment where individuals can thrive, rebuild confidence, and unlock opportunities for a brighter future.

READO in coordination with Ministry of Women, Family affairs and human rights development of SWS has successfully conducted a 7-part Awareness and Knowledge-Sharing Forum in Baidoa under the e-WINS project, bringing together financial inclusion experts, practitioners, and women entrepreneurs to explore pathways for strengthening women’s economic empowerment. The sessions focused on enhancing financial literacy, addressing gender-based barriers in access to financial services, and promoting inclusive financial ecosystems through practical case studies and success stories of women-led savings and lending groups. This initiative contributed to improving awareness, building capacity, and fostering sustainable opportunities for women’s participation in economic development.

Today is World Water Day πŸ’§ In Somalia, water scarcity is not an abstraction. We see every day what it means for a family to go without clean water β€” the illness, the distance walked, the time lost. READO is rehabilitating wells, building latrines, and trucking emergency water to the most vulnerable in Dinsoor and Hudur. Because everyone deserves safe water.

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Sophie our program manager visited Kulmis Health Facility this week β€” and she came back with a story worth sharing. The clinic was spotless. The doctors and staff were warm and professional. And while she was there, she got to meet a mother with her brand new baby. 🍼
She also spoke with the community mobilizers β€” the unsung heroes who go door to door encouraging mothers to come in for care. Their work is making a real difference. Mothers told Sophie they are so grateful that everything is free. No fees. No turning anyone away.
In Somalia right now, with drought putting extra pressure on families, that matters more than ever.
This programme is funded by the Swedish Government through Sida, delivered in partnership with International Rescue Committee and the READO Somalia team. Thank you to everyone keeping this work going β€” especially the health workers showing up every day. πŸ™πŸΎ
