Humanitarian workers must be protected. Civilians must be protected. Humanitarian access must be preserved.
On this we recognize the courage of humanitarian workers who continue serving their own communities amid uncertainty and risk.Because protecting those who help others ultimately protects the communities depending on them.

Today in Baidoa, READO proudly joined the global community to honor humanitarian workers and celebrate resilience.

Together, we reaffirm our commitment to humanity, impartiality, neutrality & independence—values guiding our mission to serve communities across Somalia. 💙🤝

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go further, go together."

A quote that stood out during the first session of Day 1 at the Africa WASH Systems Leadership Symposium in Kigali — a session on mobilizing public, private and development finance to achieve SDG 6 in Africa.

Rich conversations, honest questions, and a clear reminder: closing Africa's water and sanitation financing gap will take all of us — governments, development partners and the private sector — at one table.

🎓 Empowering Adolescent Girls Through Girl Shine

Today, READO celebrated the graduation of 20 adolescent girls who completed the 9-week Girl Shine curriculum.

Across nine weeks in safe, inclusive spaces designed for them, these girls strengthened:

· Knowledge of their rights, protection and GBV prevention
· Life skills, leadership and decision-making
· Self-confidence and psychosocial well-being
· Positive peer relationships

The programme is more than a curriculum — it is a foundation. It gives girls the tools, the language and the confidence to move through their community and their lives with agency.

Thank you to International Rescue Committee with funding support from Sida - Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbete and , for making this possible.

And to the 20 girls who graduated today — your ambition, courage and care for one another are the heart of this programme.

At READO, young people are not on the margins of our work they are at the heart of it. Across many of our programmes, we work with young women and men to strengthen skills and livelihoods, expand access to education, promote peace and social cohesion, build climate resilience, support entrepreneurship and create opportunities for meaningful participation in their communities.

We believe that investing in young people is not simply an investment in the future. It is an investment in the people who are already shaping Somalia today.

This International Youth Day, under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,” we celebrate the resilience, ideas, energy and leadership of young people across the communities we serve.

Our commitment is to continue creating spaces where young people can access opportunities, develop their potential, have their voices heard and become active partners in building resilient, peaceful and thriving communities.

When young people are given the opportunity to thrive, communities move forward with them.

READO, with support from the European Union in Somalia and in partnership with the Southwest State Somalia, successfully organized an event to commemorate International Youth Day 2026 (IYD 2026).

The event was officially opened by the Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the READO Country Representative, and the Director of Programs (DOP), who highlighted the crucial role of youth in driving sustainable development, peacebuilding, and community resilience.

The celebration brought together youth leaders, government officials, civil society organizations, and community members to recognize and promote the contributions of young people in shaping a brighter future for Somalia.

The warning about El nino is one every one of us needs to hear. A super El Niño season is on the way. And in communities already carrying a drought that has not eased, the cost of not preparing is measured not in inconvenience but in lives, in displacement, and in a season we may not recover from quickly.
Our team hosted the Country Director in Baidoa, and she saw first-hand what Bay region is up against. Her message was direct: prepare now. Waiting for the rains to arrive is the most expensive choice we can make.

Connecting Women Entrepreneurs to Financial Opportunities

At the Women Regional Investment Fair for SMEs in Baidoa, we brought women entrepreneurs and financial institutions together through one-to-one business matchmaking discussions.

These sessions provided women-led businesses with an opportunity to engage directly with banks, discuss their business needs, explore available financial services, and better understand the requirements and opportunities for accessing finance.

For financial institutions, it was also an opportunity to better understand the realities, needs, and potential of women-led businesses and explore ways to develop more inclusive and responsive financial solutions.

We are pleased to see financial institutions actively engaging with women entrepreneurs and contributing to a stronger ecosystem for women's economic empowerment and inclusive investment in Somalia.

This week we also had the pleasure of hosting a high-level delegation led by Plan International CEO, Ms. Reena Ghelani, and the Country Director at Oohiye First Response Center in Baidoa. The visit provided an opportunity to assess the humanitarian situation, observe community needs, discuss preparedness for anticipated El Niño impacts, and engage in meaningful dialogue on strategic partnerships, localization, and community empowerment through locally led initiatives.

What an end to what has been an inspiring three days of learning, connection and opportunity. Across the Annual Regional Investment Fair in Baidoa, women entrepreneurs learned, networked and encouraged one another — receiving guidance, insights and motivation from business leaders, investors, government representatives and financial institutions. Participants explored business growth, access to finance, market expansion, digital transformation and stronger networks — and built relationships that will continue long after the Fair. Deep thanks to every bank, microfinance institution and financial service provider who joined us and engaged directly with the entrepreneurs. To our panelists, guest investors, government representatives, private-sector leaders, partners and exhibitors — thank you. And to the women entrepreneurs themselves: your ambition, creativity and determination were the heart of this event. Sincere appreciation to

When was the last time an entrepreneur, a business support organisation, and a financial institution sat at the same table in Baidoa?

Today. At the closing workshop of the Annual Regional Investment Fair.

"Strengthening Business Competitiveness and Investment Readiness through Digital Tools, E-Payments and Market Access" — a session designed for women-led SMEs to move from surviving to scaling.

Sharper competitiveness. Wider markets. Cleaner books. Investment-ready.

The Fair closes with a workshop on what many women entrepreneurs say is the missing piece: digital tools, e-payments, and market access.

Entrepreneurs, business support organisations and financial institutions are around one table today — working through how women-led SMEs can move from selling well to competing well, and from competing well to being ready for investment.

The practical stuff: sharper competitiveness. Bigger market reach. Cleaner financial management. Real investment-readiness.
