Today, on World Midwives Day, MARDO proudly celebrates the dedication, compassion, and resilience of our midwives who continue to serve on the frontlines of maternal and newborn health.

Across the communities we support, our midwives are more than healthcare providers — they are trusted companions for mothers, skilled professionals ensuring safe deliveries, and advocates for the dignity and well-being of women and newborns. In often challenging and resource-limited settings, their commitment remains unwavering, bringing hope and life-saving care where it is needed most.

At MARDO, we recognize the critical role midwives play in strengthening community health systems and reducing maternal and neonatal risks. Their work is a powerful reminder that investing in midwifery is investing in healthier families and stronger communities.

As we mark this important day, we honor every midwife working tirelessly to protect and nurture life. Your impact is seen, valued, and deeply appreciated.

Today, Mandhere Relief and Development Organization (MARDO) conducted a joint supervision visit to Haboon and Hilaac cooperative farming fields in collaboration with the Southwest Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and World Food Program (WFP) and local focal point Mahadey Gure. This was done under the Rural Livelihood And Resilience Programme(RLRP)

During the visit, farmers were actively engaged in land preparation, working collectively using manual farming tools to cultivate their fields. The mission observed strong community participation, with notable involvement of women, highlighting inclusive and community-driven agricultural practices.

The team held interactive discussions with farmer groups to review progress, identify key challenges—including soil conditions and labor intensity—and provide practical recommendations to enhance productivity and sustainability.

This joint supervision underscores the critical role of partnerships between MARDO, government stakeholders, and our reliable partners in advancing climate-resilient agriculture and strengthening food security across Southwest State.

MARDO’s team in Yurkut village under Luuq District has successfully conducted a local authority engagement meeting as part of preparations for a new relief intervention targeting vulnerable, displaced communities.

The planned caseload aims to support 700 households (HHs), and this initial engagement marks an important step in ensuring the process is inclusive, transparent, and community-driven. The meeting concluded successfully, with strong collaboration and alignment with local leadership.

Following this, the team will proceed with the next phases, including broader community engagement, the formation of community selection committees, and the beneficiary selection and biometric registration process.

These steps are critical to ensuring that assistance reaches those most in need while upholding accountability and fairness throughout the implementation.

MARDO remains committed to working closely with communities and local authorities to deliver effective and dignified humanitarian support. Thanks to funding and support from World Food Programme

MARDO, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia, under the Rural Livelihood and Resilience Program (RLRP), successfully conducted community engagement activities in Elbarde District, Bakool Region.

Through this initiative, six farming cooperatives were established across eight targeted project sites, bringing together local farmers to work collectively toward improving their agricultural practices and productivity. These cooperatives will play a vital role in enhancing crop production, reducing post-harvest losses, and strengthening food security within the community.

By empowering farmers through organized groups and knowledge-sharing, the program promotes sustainable agriculture and builds long-term resilience against climate-related shocks.

We extend our sincere appreciation to World Food Programme, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) for their continued support in advancing livelihoods and resilience in Bakool.
