We care for children who've lost parental care & families at risk. Working in more than 137 countries and territories.

SOS Children's Villages Somalia is an organization that provides alternative care for children who have lost parental care in Somalia. At SOS children's Villages they grow up in the loving care of a mother in a stable environment and are supported until they become independent young adults. We have been serving in Somalia for over 35 years with one Children's Villages in Mogadishu. We have reached 381 children in Alternative care, 4510 families in livelihood and 5, 798,002 in Health and Nutrition, 3235 in Education and Early childhood Education and development and 36, 485 in Child Protection. Today, we officially launched the 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, part of 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, opening doors of opportunity for 𝟰𝟱𝟬 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲.

Partnering with Arkaan Leadership and Innovation Hub , this program will equip youth with market-ready skills through 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗘𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, with a strong focus on empowering young women (60% female participation)!

We were honoured to be joined by valued partners from Gobolka Benaadir and the Wasaaradda Waxbarashada, Hiddaha Iyo Tacliinta Sare, as well as the private sector and academic institutions including Mogadishu University جامعة مقديشو, Hormuud University, Baano Healthcare, Hormuud Salaam Foundation, Buruuj Construction, all standing together for a shared goal: a brighter, more self-reliant future for Somalia's youth.

In , droughts and floods are making farming harder. But in and , farmers are finding new ways to adapt.

Through climate-smart farming, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗯𝗮𝘆𝗼-𝗔𝗯𝗮𝘆𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 are using greenhouses to grow nutritious vegetables, rebuild livelihoods and create new opportunities for women.

We held a community mobilization and awareness session under the Green Growth project, bringing together more than 150 young people to engage in conversations about green skills and explore pathways towards a more sustainable future in , Somalia.

The session encouraged youth to enroll in green skills and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) programmes, equipping them with practical, employable skills for a changing labour market.

Discussions explored how green skills can:
✅ Create new employment opportunities
✅ Strengthen climate resilience
✅ Drive sustainable development

🍲 After finishing all eight educational sessions, 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫-𝐭𝐨-𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬 (𝐌𝐓𝐌𝐒𝐆𝐬) in #𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐛𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 put their knowledge to work through practical, hands-on nutritious food demonstrations.

Participants learned how to turn affordable, locally available fruits and vegetables into nutrient-dense meals for their families. By connecting nutrition training with livelihood opportunities, these sessions do double duty: strengthening household diets and creating pathways for small-scale food businesses and income generation.

Al Jazeera English visited our SOS Mother and Child Hospital in , where they saw the firsthand impact of the malnutrition crisis and how our teams are responding.

“Over 500 health facilities have so far closed due to shrinking funding. We are now at a pivotal stage where health and nutrition partners are no longer able to provide services,” says Bashir Said, Deputy National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Somalia.

As funding continues to shrink, the need for health and nutrition services remains urgent.

We joined the 𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐒𝐂𝐑𝐂) in convening a two-day workshop bringing together child-focused civil society organizations (CSOs), line ministries, and key child protection stakeholders to strengthen their capacity to advance children’s rights and protection in .

The training strengthened CSOs’ advocacy skills, coordination, and accountability, with a focus on advancing stronger child rights laws, policies, and community-based protection systems. Participants shared experiences, explored recent developments, and discussed practical approaches to influencing policies, systems, and community practices that protect children and uphold their rights.

From the 𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟒–𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟓 𝐃𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐝𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐫 drought-famine to renewed 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓–𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, the research highlights how climate change, conflict, displacement, market disruption, weak recovery systems and shrinking humanitarian financing deepen vulnerability.
