Zamzam Foundation Zamzam Foundation is a humanitarian charity founded in Mogadishu in 1992, focused on health, education, orphans, economic development, WASH and peace-building.

OUR BACKGROUND
In Somalia, a country in the Horn of Africa, successive wars and environmental disasters; draughts, tsunami, floods and epidemics continue to cause human sufferings, the death and displacement of many innocent populations. The Zamzam Foundation was founded, as a non-profit charitable organization, in Mogadishu in 1992, by a group of educated Somali volunteers who responded to the humanitarian plight that existed at the time. Due to the deteriorating humanitarian conditions of the populations and the rising needs of the vulnerable communities, the Zamzam Foundation expanded its humanitarian relief work to include, water & sanitation, orphan and child care, education, health care, seasonal charities, construction & development and income generation for poor families.

As part of the Anticipatory Action for Flooding project, Zamzam Foundation, in collaboration with Save the Children in Somalia conducted a series of community preparedness activities in riverine communities around Bulo Burte.
The activities included community engagement meetings and the establishment and training of Community-Based Disaster Management Committees (CBDMCs). These activities were conducted to strengthen community awareness, preparedness, coordination, and early action ahead of potential flooding.
Through the community engagement meetings, community members discussed key flood risks, preparedness priorities, early warning, evacuation arrangements, and actions that can be taken before flooding occurs.
A total of 45 community members participated in the establishment and training of the CBDMCs. The committees were equipped with knowledge on flood risk identification, early warning, preparedness, community coordination, and their roles in supporting timely response.
These efforts aim to strengthen community ownership and resilience and ensure that communities are better prepared to anticipate and take early action.

💧 Clean Water, Stronger Communities
A renewed source of hope for the community of Carayaambo, Arabsiyo, Somaliland.
Zamzam Foundation, with the support of جمعية الشيخ عبد الله النوري الخيرية has completed the rehabilitation of a water well, improving access to clean and reliable water for local communities and their livestock.
The project included the rehabilitation of the water well, installation of water kiosks and livestock water troughs, as well as a solar-powered water system and pump to support a more reliable and sustainable water supply.

📚 A New School Year, A New Opportunity

This month, Zamzam Foundation supported more than 1,800 students in Mogadishu through a Back-to-School initiative, providing essential learning materials to help children begin the new school year prepared and confident.

But it was about more than school supplies. 🎒❤️

We also shared games, fun activities, and moments of joy with the students—creating an environment where children could learn, play, and celebrate the start of a new school year together.

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream of a brighter future.

🌱 Co-Designing Nature-Based Solutions for Resilient Communities

As part of the JOSP Project, Zamzam Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of Hirshabelle State, with support from UNEP, facilitated a Nature-Based Solutions Co-Design Workshop in Jowhar, Hirshabelle State.

The workshop brought together JOSP community representatives to share local knowledge, discuss environmental challenges, and collaboratively explore practical nature-based solutions that can strengthen community resilience and support sustainable environmental management.

📚 Strengthening the Role of Religious Leaders

Zamzam Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of Hirshabelle State, UNEP, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Endowments, conducted an Al-Mizan Training for Religious Leaders as part of the JOSP Project, bringing together religious leaders to strengthen their knowledge, understanding, and capacity to contribute positively to their communities.

The training provided an opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge, discuss key issues, and strengthen their role in promoting awareness, positive values, and community engagement.

Through initiatives like this, we continue to support community leaders with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to stronger and more resilient communities.

💧 Access to safe and sustainable water is a critical humanitarian need, protecting health, supporting livelihoods, and helping communities withstand the impacts of drought.

In Daanyaale, Arabsiyo, Zamzam Foundation, with support from كاف الإنسانية Kaaf Humanitarian, has established a solar-powered borehole, a 10-hectare farm, and a livestock shelter, benefiting approximately 8,000 people and their livestock.

For communities facing recurrent drought and water shortages, the project provides more than immediate access to water. It strengthens food security, supports livestock and agricultural livelihoods, and contributes to longer-term community resilience.

By investing in sustainable water infrastructure and livelihood opportunities, the project helps vulnerable communities reduce their exposure to drought-related challenges and build greater capacity to cope with future shocks.

Sustainable water solutions can save lives, protect livelihoods, and strengthen community resilience. 🌱💧

في دانيالي، أرابسيو، قامت مؤسسة زمزم، بدعم من KAF Humanitarian، بتنفيذ مشروع يضم بئرًا يعمل بالطاقة الشمسية، ومزرعة بمساحة 10 هكتارات، ومأوى للماشية، ليستفيد منه نحو 8,000 شخص وماشيتهم.
