Advocating for Greater Investment in Education
MEDA Somalia continues to strengthen its advocacy efforts for greater investment in education, particularly in communities where children face significant barriers to accessing quality education.
During my recent visit to Lower Shabelle Region, particularly the Janaale area, I witnessed a situation that deserves urgent attention.
There is a modern school building in the area, constructed through significant financial investment, yet the school is currently closed, with not a single student attending.
This raises an important question:
How can we ensure that investments in school infrastructure translate into real educational opportunities for children?
The solution is possible. Building a school is only the first step. We must also invest in qualified teachers, learning materials, community awareness, student support, school management, and other essential services that encourage families to send their children to school.
MEDA Somalia believes that education financing must go beyond constructing buildings. Our focus should be on ensuring that schools are functional, accessible, inclusive, and capable of delivering quality education to every child.
We therefore call upon the government, education partners, donors, development organizations, the private sector, and local communities to work together to identify the barriers preventing children in Janaale and surrounding areas from accessing education and to develop sustainable solutions.
A school building is an investment in infrastructure.
A child in the classroom is an investment in Somalia’s future.
Invest in Education. Invest in Children. Invest in Somalia.
