When the Shabelle River broke its banks, Ahmed and his twelve children lost their home and their farm in a matter of hours. They spent five months on higher ground with nothing to return to.

Then cash assistance arrived. In Ahmed's words: "That money is what carried us through."

With $120 a month for three months, his family covered food, water and medicine without pulling the children out of school or selling the tools they farm with. When the water receded, a farming package helped Ahmed replant. This season, he harvested two full barrels of maize.

His recovery is real, but the river has not gone away.

📰 In an interview with The Associated Press AP, our Area Director, Mohamed Assair, highlighted the growing humanitarian emergency facing children and families across .

“This drought is not just another cycle of dry season. It’s a repeated climate shock with shrinking humanitarian support.”

Across many parts of Somalia, prolonged drought, rising food insecurity, displacement, and reduced humanitarian funding are placing millions of lives at risk. Children are among the hardest hit, with increasing levels of acute malnutrition and limited access to essential services.

The international community must act urgently to scale up lifesaving support and invest in long-term resilience for vulnerable communities.
