Powering Agriculture: Building Resilient Communities.

SADO, in partnership with Oxfam, is proud to announce the successful installation and commissioning of 4 solar-powered irrigation systems in Hoodley, Maalin Diid, Nimcaan, and Bulakahin villages under the Somali Joint Response Programme (SomJR) 2024–2026.

These climate-smart irrigation systems will support 40 farmers from four agricultural cooperatives, providing reliable water for year-round farming, reducing production costs, and promoting sustainable agriculture through clean solar energy.

Together, we are strengthening livelihoods, improving food security, and building more resilient rural communities—one village at a time.

A heartfelt thank you to our community leaders, cooperative members, local authorities, and partners for making this achievement possible.

Strengthening Anticipatory Action for Somalia

SADO was pleased to participate in the CAAP Somalia Scenario Building Workshop held over the past two days in Nairobi, alongside consortium members and humanitarian experts.

The workshop provided a valuable platform to jointly analyze Somalia's evolving context, develop plausible conflict scenarios for the next 12–18 months, identify key indicators and triggers, and explore the humanitarian implications and lead times required for effective anticipatory action.

As humanitarian needs continue to evolve, collaborative and evidence-based planning remains essential to ensuring timely, proactive, and people-centred responses. SADO values the opportunity to contribute to these important discussions and strengthen collective efforts to better anticipate and respond to future humanitarian challenges in Somalia.

🎓 98 Graduates. New Skills. Brighter Futures.

SADO proudly celebrated the graduation of 98 young women and men who successfully completed a five-month TVET programme in Electrical Installation and Tailoring at the SADO Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Kismayo.

Equipped with practical technical skills and entrepreneurship training, these graduates are now better prepared to secure employment, launch businesses, and build sustainable livelihoods. This milestone reflects the power of skills development in empowering youth and creating lasting economic opportunities.

The graduation ceremony was honored by the Director General of the Ministry of Education and Higher Learning, the Director of TVET, the Chairlady of the Kismayo Women Umbrella, the Deputy Director of Jubaland Non-state Actors (JUNSAA), Parents, and representatives from the Finnish Somalia Network (FSN) and HODECO.

The Kobciye Project is implemented by SADO with co-funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland through the Finnish Somalia Network (FSN).

🤝 Strengthening Partnerships for Greater Impact

The Social Life & Agricultural Development Organization (SADO) was pleased to host the NCA Jubland Area Manager Sayid during a courtesy visit to Kismayo aimed at strengthening collaboration, reviewing ongoing interventions, and enhancing coordination with key stakeholders.

As part of the visit, SADO and NCA met with the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss ongoing food security and livelihoods initiatives, reinforce government engagement, and explore opportunities for closer collaboration in supporting vulnerable communities across Jubaland.

SADO remains committed to working closely with government institutions, donors, and partners to deliver sustainable and community-driven solutions that strengthen resilience and improve livelihoods.

Turning Potential into Opportunity: Investing in Youth Skills in Kismayo

In Somalia, youth unemployment remains one of the greatest challenges facing communities today. Limited access to education, skills development, and employment opportunities continues to trap many young people in cycles of poverty and vulnerability.

At the SADO Vocational Training Center in Kismayo, we are helping to change that story.

Our fifth cohort of trainees is currently undertaking practical training in Electricity and Tailoring, equipping young women and men with marketable skills that can open pathways to employment, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship. Every lesson learned and every skill acquired brings these young people one step closer to building sustainable livelihoods and contributing positively to their communities.

The center has already successfully graduated four previous cohorts, empowering hundreds of youth with technical and vocational skills that improve their prospects for decent work and income generation.

By investing in skills development, we are not only addressing unemployment but also strengthening resilience, reducing poverty, and creating opportunities for young people to shape a brighter future for themselves and their families.

This initiative is implemented by SADO with support from Finish Somali Network and funding from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

For many families in Bulogadud, a riverine village in Kismayo, food insecurity is not just about a lack of food—it is about limited opportunities to cultivate land, earn an income, and recover from recurring shocks that threaten livelihoods.

To help address these challenges, 114 vulnerable households are participating in an ongoing Cash-for-Work initiative focused on clearing and rehabilitating farmland for agricultural production. The activity provides immediate income that enables families to meet their most pressing household needs while restoring productive livelihood assets that will support food production in the months ahead.

By transforming idle and overgrown land into productive farmland, communities are not only earning today but also investing in tomorrow's harvests. The initiative represents a practical pathway from short-term support to longer-term resilience, helping households strengthen their ability to produce food, generate income, and withstand future shocks.

Access to menstrual hygiene materials helps girls manage their health with dignity, confidence and comfort, enabling them to continue attending school and focusing on their education.

SADO, with support from the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), under flagship initiative distributed dignity kits to school-going adolescent girls in Wirkoy, Baarka, Farwaamo and Singaler villages of Jamaame District.

Conflict, exclusion, and limited opportunities continue to challenge many communities across Somalia, particularly affecting young people and weakening social cohesion.

To help strengthen local peace efforts, Sadosomalia, in partnership with NCA Somalia and with funding support from the Government of , conducted peacebuilding activities in Belet-Hawa and Dolow Gedo region Jubaland Somalia.

The initiative brought together elders, youth, women leaders, and peace actors to build skills in conflict prevention, mediation, dialogue facilitation, and early warning systems. Through interactive learning and discussions, participants explored practical ways to resolve disputes peacefully, strengthen community collaboration, and promote lasting coexistence.

Supporting Drought-Affected Families Through Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance

SADO has successfully distributed SIM cards to vulnerable households in targeted villages of Beledweyne, Hirshabele State Somalia as part of the Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) intervention under the ARC Project.

The SIM card distribution is a critical step in enabling eligible households to safely and efficiently receive emergency cash assistance, empowering families to meet their most urgent needs, including food, clean water, healthcare, education, and other essential household expenses.

Each targeted household will receive USD 90 per month for three consecutive months, providing flexible support that allows families to prioritize their own needs with dignity while strengthening their resilience in the face of prolonged drought and recurring climate shocks.

This timely humanitarian assistance is helping vulnerable families protect their livelihoods, reduce negative coping mechanisms, and begin recovering from the impacts of drought, displacement, and other climate-related challenges.

Despite the hardships faced by communities across Beledweyne, families continue to demonstrate remarkable strength and resilience as they work towards rebuilding their lives.

This intervention is funded by Start Network with support from UK AID and African Risk Capacity (ARC), in coordination with Somali Disaster Management Agency (SODMA)
