The ECHOSHIP Consortium recently paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Health and Social Services in Jubbaland, where they met with the Minister, Ismail Ahmed Garas, alongside ministry directors. The engagement provided an important platform to discuss the evolving health context in Jubbaland and align on priorities to strengthen service delivery.

The Ministry highlighted a severe and protracted humanitarian situation driven by recurrent drought and ongoing conflict. Public health risks remain high, particularly in Kismayo, where repeated outbreaks of measles and cholera continue to strain an already fragile health system. With 146 health facilities across the state, many are under threat, over 40 have already shut down due to funding constraints.

During the meeting, the Ministry also recognised the support of European Union and the SHIP Consortium for their continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and strengthening access to essential health services across the state.

Flash floods have left lasting scars across communities—rendering land unusable and posing serious risks to both people and livestock.

In response, communities are taking action to restore their environment through reforestation and improved water retention practices, helping to rebuild resilience against future water shortages.

Through Cash-for-Work, the Early Recovery Project (ERP) supported by World Food Programme, World Vision is supporting these efforts enabling communities not only to protect and rehabilitate their natural resources, but also to earn an income and support their families with dignity.

When children are affected by malnutrition in hashtag , Ready-to-Use Therapeutic food (RUTF) becomes more than just nutrition, it is a lifeline. For many, it is the difference between survival and loss.

Today, as funding continues to decline, stocks of this life-saving commodity are at risk of running out. Without it, we will be unable to reach the most vulnerable children who depend on this critical support.

We are deeply grateful to our generous donors who have enabled us to procure, stock, and distribute these essential supplies each packet restoring hope and saving lives. But the need is growing, and current resources are not enough.

With drought conditions worsening, more children are slipping into severe malnutrition. We cannot afford a gap in supply. The consequences are simply too devastating to imagine.

Now, more than ever, we must come together.

Join us in ensuring that no child is denied this life-saving support. Your contribution can help us continue delivering hope, health, and a future to the children of Somalia.

Through our Gifts in Kind (GIK) initiative, we distributed essential learning materials to school-going children in Somaliland’s Gabiley District.

The distribution targeted primary and upper-primary students (Grades 1–8), providing backpacks alongside key items such as pencils, toys, plastic drinkware, and sweaters. These supplies are more than just materials, they are tools that enable children to learn with dignity and confidence.

This intervention is already making a meaningful difference. By easing the financial burden on families, it is helping ensure that more children can stay in school and participate fully in their education. Teachers are also reporting improved student morale, engagement, and readiness to learn.

Gifts in Kind remains a critical approach in complementing donor support and addressing funding gaps, allowing us to extend our reach to the most vulnerable communities. Continued investment in education support initiatives like this is essential to strengthening access, equity, and quality of education across Gabiley District and beyond.

The drought in Somalia is forcing families to make desperate choices. In Dollow, I met families who walked for nine days, leaving behind their homes, livestock, and livelihoods in search of basic necessities. Two years of no rain have pushed them to the edge.

Local authorities are registering them in IDP camps, but the needs are overwhelming. Children and families are paying the heaviest price. We urgently need your support to provide humanitarian aid to these families in crisis.

Let's come together to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Today, on World TB Day, under the theme “Yes, We Can End TB,” we are reminded that tuberculosis remains a serious public health challenge across communities in the country.

Encouragingly, the past two years have seen a modest but steady improvement in case detection, reflecting the tireless efforts of healthcare workers, communities, and partners working on the frontlines of TB control.

Despite complex challenges including insecurity, reduced funding, drought, conflict, and displacement progress is being made. With continued investment and leadership from partners like the Global Fund and World Vision, strides in TB detection, treatment, and prevention are helping to save lives and strengthen resilience.

Ending TB is possible but only through sustained commitment, collaboration, and innovation.

In Sinai Village near Dolow town, we constructed a solar-powered water system serving over 20 surrounding villages, each with an estimated 200 households.

The community actively participated by excavating a 12 km pipeline, demonstrating strong ownership and self-reliance.

In times of drought, this water source becomes a lifeline supporting both people and livestock.

We thank the Government and People of Japan, and the World Food Programme, for supporting communities in their transition from emergency aid toward sustainable self-reliance.

World Vision Somali delivered essential Gift-in-Kind (GIK) support to strengthen health and education services in Southwest State.

A total of 25 delivery beds were handed over to the Ministry of Health to help improve maternal and primary healthcare services in health facilities across the region. These supplies will support health workers in providing safer and more dignified care for mothers and patients.

In addition, 426 pairs of shoes were officially handed over to the Ministry of Education of Somalia in Southwest State of Somalia, contributing to improved wellbeing and school participation for children. GIK is our way of complimenting the funds and support we receive from our generous donors.

is facing one of the world's largest displacement crises, with nearly 4 million people internally displaced (IDPs) as of early 2026.

More than 80% of displaced individuals are women and children.

The situation has been worsened by the current drought which is wiping livelihoods forcing families out of their homes in search of food and water.

World Vision Somali Communication Manager Walter Mawere reports from one of these camps for internally displaced people shedding light on the dire conditions. The situation is critical, and urgent action is needed to address the humanitarian crisis.
