Dr. Abdirashid Mohamed Egal
Abdirashid Mohamed Egal was appointed District Polio Officer WHO Representative for CeelWaaq Somalia, Gedo Region on 9 March 1998. Dr Abdirashid Mohamed is an epidemiologist with over 15 years of experience in managing infectious disease surveillance, outbreak response, and other public health crises. He has a special interest in building health systems for crisis man
agement, including prevention and control of emerging infectious disease outbreaks. Dr Abdirashid was the Manager of the Medical Management Programme under the Department of Health Emergencies in the Mercy USA District Office for the CeelWaaq and managed the prevention and control of epidemic- and pandemic-prone diseases in the Region from June 2016 to March 2018. From 2010 to 2011, Dr Abdirashid was the Public Health and Preparedness Cluster for the CeelWaaq Somalia, Gedo Region, and established the programme for prevention, detection, and response to health out break threats. He was also District Adviser for the Pandemic and Epidemic Disease programme. Between 2004 and 2009, Dr Abdirashid led the District operational response to emerging infectious disease outbreaks, including Middle East respiratory syndrome, cholera, Cr haemorrhagic fever, yellow fever, dengue and chikungunya, avian influenza and meningococcal meningitis reported in the countries of WHO Gedo Zone Region. As a public health expert, Dr Abdirashid has worked for WHO only in Somalia . Dr Abdirashid holds a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), Medical Health from the University of Somalia.
