In Somalia, when it rains flooding severely damages farms, washing away soil, scarring the land with deep gullies, and leaving once-productive land barren. This has weakened food security and threatened the livelihoods of surrounding communities. That’s why we’re proud to share that UK in Somalia is once again standing with Somali communities to reverse this downward spiral.
For the second year in a row, the UK in Somalia has designated Somalia as a priority country for the Resilience and Adaptation Fund (RAF) uplift. We appreciate the UK’s trust in BRCiS to deliver this flexible financing at the intersection of climate adaptation and humanitarian basic needs, helping communities , reclaim their land, and rebuild their resilience.
What we are doing:
• Water harvesting structures such as halfmoons, bioswales, water catchments, zai pits, and gulley ploughing.
• Spillway armoring to stop further land degradation
• Tree planting and afforestation to boost biodiversity and soil health
Our Goals:
• Slow, spread, save, and sink water into the soil
• Reduce runoff and soil erosion
• Improve soil fertility and water retention
• Restore degraded farmland and strengthen community resilience
These efforts are turning dry, eroded lands into thriving agricultural spaces, supporting families, protecting the environment, and strengthening their ability to withstand future droughts.
