WASDA Somalia in partnership with Oxfam Somali conducted a one-day community clean-up campaign in Danwadaag IDP Camp in Dhobley, engaging 40 members of the sanitation women’s group. The activity focused on improving cleanliness around the health facility and nearby communal areas, while strengthening community ownership of sanitation and hygiene. It also contributed to preparedness efforts ahead of the anticipated El Niño, helping reduce environmental and sanitation risks.

The Fanoole mobile outreach team delivered integrated community health and nutrition services, including health consultations, IYCF counselling and nutrition screening.

Health consultations focused on assessing community members’ health needs and providing appropriate guidance and referrals. Caregivers also received key messages on breastfeeding and age-appropriate complementary feeding, while nutrition screening helped identify children who may be at risk of malnutrition for appropriate counselling and referral.

By taking these services closer to communities, mobile outreach teams help expand access to essential health and nutrition support, particularly in hard-to-reach areas

WASDA Somalia conducted a two-day refresher training for Disaster Risk Management Committees (DRMCs) and Early Warning Volunteers (EWVs) in Dhobley, focusing on El Nino preparedness, early warning and community-level disaster readiness.

The training provided a platform for community representatives to strengthen their understanding of preparedness measures, early warning mechanisms and coordinated action to help communities anticipate and respond to potential climate-related risks.

The activity was conducted under the PoWEr Project Promoting Women Empowerment & Strengthening Vulnerable Groups through an Integrated Approach to Building Resilient Communities in South & Central Somalia, implemented by WASDA Somalia in partnership with Johanniter International Assistance and funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)

As part of the MAPLE IHA Project in Kismayo District, WASDA facilitated the distribution of appreciation and support kits to members of the Father-to-Father (F2F) and Mother-to-Mother (M2M) Support Groups.

The kits, distributed included essential items such as mats and soap, alongside clothing materials for participating caregivers. The support complements the groups’ ongoing efforts to promote infant and young child feeding (IYCF), hygiene, positive caregiving and community participation

Through these community-led groups, caregivers continue to share knowledge, strengthen healthy practices and support one another in creating healthier communities

Bringing essential health services closer to vulnerable communities.

Under the Somalia Humanitarian Integrated Project (SHIP2), WASDA Somalia supports access to integrated health and nutrition services for vulnerable IDPs and host communities in Somalia.

Health workers continue to provide essential consultations, monitoring and care, while engaging with community members to promote better health and well-being.

Strengthening the capacity of health workers in Afmadow District.

WASDA Somalia in partnership with World Vision International conducted a training for health workers on the New IMAM Somalia Guideline, under the Somalia Humanitarian Integrated Project (SHIP2).

WASDA Somalia, together with partners and the local authority, conducted a joint field visit as part of ongoing El Nino preparedness and contingency planning efforts.

The visit followed a coordination meeting focused on assessing the current preparedness situation, identifying key priorities, and discussing potential areas that could serve as evacuation sites in the event of an emergency.

The team then jointly assessed the proposed locations to better understand their suitability and identify priority requirements for further preparedness actions.

We appreciate the support and coordination of the local authority, particularly in facilitating security arrangements and accompanying the team throughout the field assessment.
