🌍 HECA CALL FOR EL NIÑO RISK AWARENESS & ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION 🌱
Human and Environmental Care Agency (HECA) calls on communities, local authorities, humanitarian partners, and environmental stakeholders across Somalia to strengthen preparedness and collective action against the potential impacts of El Niño-related climate risks.
🌧️ El Niño can contribute to heavy rainfall, flooding, water contamination, soil erosion, destruction of infrastructure, and environmental degradation, with serious consequences for vulnerable communities.
HECA encourages communities to:
✅ Protect and restore drainage systems and waterways
✅ Avoid dumping waste in rivers and drainage channels
✅ Protect water sources from contamination
✅ Strengthen community early-warning and preparedness mechanisms
✅ Promote tree planting and environmental conservation
✅ Prepare vulnerable households for possible flooding and displacement
✅ Coordinate with local authorities and humanitarian partners
✅ Support climate-resilient WASH and environmental interventions
🤝 Prepared communities are safer communities.
HECA remains committed to working with the Federal Government of Somalia, state authorities, communities, humanitarian partners, and environmental stakeholders to promote climate resilience, environmental protection, and sustainable WASH services.
🌱 Protect the Environment. Prepare Communities. Save Lives.
