MOGADISHU, 31 January 2026 – The United Nations Association of Somalia (UNASOMALIA) today concluded the Somali Youth Education & Leadership Symposium 2026, held in Mogadishu from 24 to 31 January under the theme “Building Somalia’s Tomorrow: The Power of Educated Youth Leadership.”
Launched in honour of the International Day of Education, the symposium brought together a diverse group of young Somali leaders for in-depth exchanges on the interlinkages between inclusive, quality education, transformative youth leadership, and sustainable, community-driven development.
Through thematic discussions and capacity-building workshops, participants generated concrete recommendations and innovative approaches aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Deliberations reaffirmed the pivotal role of educated and empowered youth in advancing peacebuilding and national development in Somalia.
UNASOMALIA commends all participants for their substantive engagement and contribution. During the closing ceremony, certificates of participation were awarded in recognition of their active role and commitment.
The Association reiterates its strong commitment to advancing youth empowerment and leadership development in Somalia and extends its sincere appreciation to all partners, facilitators and participants whose support and collaboration were instrumental to the success of this symposium.
