🤱 Yesterday, as came to an end, GREDO Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding through the Consortium, with support from the EU Delegation to Somalia and in partnership with World Vision Somalia.

Mothers and fathers participated in awareness sessions at Waberi Health Centre in Burhakaba and Towfiq Health Centre in Qansaxdheere, strengthening their knowledge of breastfeeding and optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.

By empowering families with practical knowledge and support, we can help children survive, grow, and thrive, while ensuring mothers receive the information and support they need to breastfeed successfully.

The programme also featured live questions and answers from listeners, giving mothers, fathers, and caregivers the opportunity to seek practical advice and learn directly from a nutrition expert.

🤱 Our World Breastfeeding Week 2026 awareness campaign continues across Baidoa, with awareness sessions held at Danwadaag and Towfiq Health Centres to promote optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices.

The sessions focused on exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, and healthy feeding practices to give every child the healthiest start in life.

Yesterday, GREDO management led by Deputy Executive Director, HoP, Kalaay joined fellow partners in a strategic meeting with the CEO of Plan International and the Plan International Somalia Executive Director to strengthen collaboration and explore opportunities for deeper partnership in Somalia.

The discussions focused on enhancing coordination, identifying priorities for joint programming, and advancing collective efforts to address the country's evolving humanitarian and development challenges.

A key focus was also placed on 𝗘𝗹 𝗡𝗶ñ𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 and 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, highlighting the importance of early planning, coordinated response, and strengthened partnerships to better protect vulnerable communities before disasters strike.

🤱 With support from Welthungerhilfe (WHH), we brought together mothers from host communities and IDP settlements at Buunow and Darusalam Health Centres in Baidoa for breastfeeding awareness sessions in commemoration of World Breastfeeding Week 2026.

By promoting optimal Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices, the sessions empowered mothers with practical knowledge to improve the health and nutrition of their children.

🤝 Forty-five members graduated from Mother-to-Mother and Father-to-Father IYCF Support Groups in Baidoa, strengthening community-based support for improved infant and young child feeding practices.

The initiative promotes exclusive breastfeeding, appropriate complementary feeding, caregiver counselling, and the early prevention of child malnutrition, empowering communities to support healthier children from birth through their early years.

As part of its continued commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with the South West State Government, a GREDO Somalia senior management delegation led by 𝐀𝐥𝐢 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐊𝐥𝐚𝐲, Deputy Executive Director, and 𝐌𝐨𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐟, Operations Director, paid courtesy visits to the Ministries of Health and Social Care, Education, Agriculture, and Energy and Water Resources.

The meetings focused on enhancing institutional partnerships, improving coordination, and identifying priority areas for joint action to better serve communities across South West State Somalia.

The discussions concluded with a shared commitment to renew the existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), strengthen regular coordination on El Niño preparedness and disaster risk reduction, and ensure GREDO's new three-year Strategic Plan is aligned with the priorities and vision of the respective line ministries to strengthen long-term partnership and impact.

At Health Centre, We provides Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling, nutrition services, and dedicated Mother-Baby Rooms, helping mothers build the knowledge and confidence to give their children the healthiest start in life.

This 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸, we celebrate every mother's commitment to raising healthier children through optimal breastfeeding and infant feeding practices.

📍 We recently conducted a Rapid Needs Assessment in the hard-to-reach villages of Gedisoy Wiin, Salata, Korowshidle, Shuqayta, and Kurteley in Buurhakaba District, Bay Region, documenting the effects of prolonged drought on households already facing severe hardship.

The assessment identified widespread crop failure, depleted household food stocks, water scarcity, and increasing food insecurity, while confirming that no active humanitarian assistance is currently reaching these communities.

The findings will help inform efforts to mobilize life-saving support for the most vulnerable households.
