Today in Mogadishu, GREDO participated in the Lower Shabelle El Niño Preparedness and Response Coordination Meeting, led by the Southwest State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in collaboration with the ministries of Planning, Water and Energy, Women and Family, and Interior, alongside humanitarian partners and other actors.

Coordinated preparedness and timely early action are essential to protect communities, livelihoods and essential services from flood risks.

GREDO remains committed to working with government, partners and communities to strengthen locally led preparedness and response in Lower Shabelle.

How can communities turn their priorities into practical solutions during a drought?

GREDO’s latest BRCiS III Lessons-Learned Case Study documents Ashagow’s experience with the Small Grants Fund, showing how community-led planning supported locally identified responses to food and water challenges.

Across Baidoa and Diinsoor, 15 community groups developed proposals, with six groups selected and USD 24,915 in combined grants supporting food assistance, water-source rehabilitation and water trucking.

🎓 GREDO Somalia marked the graduation of 13 youth from IDP and host communities in Baidoa after completing four months of market-driven vocational training under the Programme.

The graduates developed practical skills in tailoring, computer skills and graphic design, and received certificates and startup kits to help them apply their skills and improve their livelihoods.

GREDO Somalia is supporting crisis-affected and vulnerable communities in Burhakaba through an HF Emergency Response delivering Health, Nutrition and WASH services.

The response aims to improve access to essential health and nutrition services, safe water, adequate sanitation and good hygiene practices, helping prevent illness and protect lives.
