This week, Caafimaad Plus held a strategic engagement with the Ministry of Health- Somalia to advance interoperability between our Caafimaadplus digital health platform and the government-owned DHIS2 system.

This collaboration is a major step toward a stronger, more connected health information ecosystem in β€” one where data flows seamlessly between systems, healthcare decisions are backed by real-time evidence, and patient data privacy is fully protected.

At Caafimaad Plus, we believe that sustainable health system improvement starts with strong partnerships. Working hand in hand with the Ministry of Health, we are committed to ensuring that every Somali has access to better, smarter, and more responsive healthcare.

In Konton and Dareselam, local women are the architects of their own stability. Through their cross-border trade networks, they have built a resilient system that sustains livelihoods along the Kenya–Somalia border.

This short animation offers a grounded look at why community-led action is the cornerstone of effective humanitarian work. It highlights:

βœ… How people naturally organize to protect one another during a crisis.
βœ… Why external agencies must pivot toward supporting existing local strengths.
βœ… The power of community narratives in shaping sustainable aid.

The most reliable solutions are already being lived every day. Watch their story below. πŸ‘‡

For a child in a remote nomadic settlement, a vaccine is often the only barrier between everyday life and serious illness.

This World Immunization Week, we say: vaccines work. In Somalia, making that a reality depends on how well we reach families who are constantly on the move.

The approach has had to adapt. Services are no longer limited to fixed clinics. Through an integrated model, a mother who comes for a nutrition screening, antenatal care, or treatment can have her child vaccinated during the same visit. One contact becomes a chance to deliver multiple services.

Reaching these communities takes planning and persistence. Mobile teams travel long distances, following nomadic routes to find children who have never received a single dose. At the same time, strict cold chain systems are maintained to ensure every vaccine remains safe and effective, even in remote areas.

With support from European Union Humanitarian Aid and the British Embassy Mogadishu, the Caafimaad Plus Consortium is expanding access to essential health services while strengthening the systems behind them.

The goal is every child, regardless of where they live, should have access to basic protection early in life. Read more: https://caafimaad-plus.org/caafimaadplus-closing-the-immunity-gap-in-somalia/

This , we are looking back at a year of vital progress in Somalia. In 2025, our teams treated over 23,000 children for malaria, giving them a chance to grow up healthy and strong.

Through our integrated programming and the incredible support of EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid and UK in Somalia, we are proving that progress is possible. But the momentum cannot stop here.

We have the tools. We have the plan. Now we must finish the job.

In South-Central Somalia, the era of manual record-keeping is giving way to a new standard of digital excellence. Supported by EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid (ECHO), the CaafimaadPlus Consortium is partnering with the government to ensure health data is as mobile and resilient as the populations we serve.

Through the Caafimaad Plus Digitalized Data System (C+ DDS) and the Pharmaceutical Information Management System (PIMS), we have scaled from a five-facility pilot to over 40 facilities across nine regions. This system now captures 3,000+ consultations daily, replacing paper logs with real-time data and predictive supply alerts.

For many families, this means secure and accessible records. This digital transformation is building a transparent, world-class health ecosystem that reaches every Somali citizen when they need it most.

Read more about our digital transformation here:

In South-Central Somalia, the delivery of modern healthcare is increasingly driven by a single, powerful variable: real-time information. For years, the health sector relied on manual record-keeping. While it worked, paper logs and manual reporting created gaps. When families moved, records could be...

In humanitarian emergencies, the invisible scars of stress and trauma can be just as impactful as physical needs. For a child, the loss of routine and safety can disrupt vital developmental milestones, making the presence of a stable environment essential for long-term recovery. Through the Caafimaad Plus consortium and supported by UK in Somalia funding, we are prioritizing the mental and physical wellbeing of children by establishing Child and baby-Friendly Spaces that act as a sanctuary from the surrounding chaos.

These spaces by our partner like Trocaire offer a secure environment where structured play, drawing, and storytelling allow children to process their experiences and reclaim a sense of normalcy among their peers. By providing this protected perimeter, we ensure that children are never left unattended while their parents seek out life-saving resources like food, clean water, or medical assistance. This support system grants families the peace of mind necessary to focus on rebuilding their lives while knowing their children are supervised and safe from harm.

Ultimately, investing in these protected areas is an investment in the future of the community. These programs bridge the gap in informal education and emotional support, preventing developmental delays and fostering the cognitive stability children need to overcome the shocks of conflict or natural disasters.

In parts of Lower Juba, the drought is more than climate change; it is a direct threat to the lives of mothers and children.

Caafimaad Plus response is built on a single, sharp principle: integration. Combining health, nutrition, and WASH and protection ensures vulnerable families receive comprehensive support in every single visit.

In Somali culture, we say "Far keligeed fool ma dhaqdo"β€”a single finger cannot wash a face. This spirit drives our collaboration with community health workers and local partners. We avoid working in isolation because impact is only as strong as the community that carries it.

The data from our health facilities confirms our progress through rising vaccination rates and healthier outcomes for mothers during the harshest seasons. These are not just metrics; they represent a tangible shift from emergency relief toward long-term sustainability. Reliable healthcare must remain accessible even after the crisis fades.

Our ambition is to build a healthcare system that endures long after the rain returns. Every Somali family deserves uninterrupted access to quality care and the dignity that comes with it. This is how we transform emergency aid into a sustainable future for Jamame.
