HAPEN is a not-for-profit making and Non-Governmental Organization which was established in 2008 in response to immense suffering caused by protracted civil strife from 1991. The organization was founded on July 2011 by a group of young professionals who have different educational backgrounds and experiences from various humanitarian, emergency and governmental operations from the pastorals’ communities who felt that the community has been under developed for a long time and that a change can only be brought by none other than the locals
HAPEN was therefore created on the philosophy that is would operate on the basis of a community driven initiative, which can best create sustainable solutions to their own problems. The organization aims to support and consolidate inclusive and integrated approach that is rooted in mainstreaming popular participation of the ordinary people and bringing together both traditional and modern structures in taking practical action to achieve sustainable development. In the light of the above context, HAPEN has particularly stood up to take over that courageous role to cover up the increasing array needs of the communities living in this dire situation caused by human and climatic catastrophes and shrinking of opportunities. HAPEN: Develops community based development initiatives including livelihood support schemes, as well is committed to focus on Water and Sanitation, Emergency, Education and advocacy programmes in collaboration with communities and leaders. Similarly, HAPEN conducts appropriate community needs assessment & research in the respective regions to analyze as accurately as possible, the real situation on the ground & properly addresses them in line with appropriate predetermined strategy.

HAPEN has continued to distribute NFIs Kits and plastic sheets to communities affected by recent El nino- induced riverine flooding in Luuq district, Gedo region-Jubaland state of Somalia. Such support helps families to recover quickly and in the process avert the need gor another humanitarian emergency. Thanking Somalia for the timely and generous support.
