United Livestock Professional Association - ULPA

United Livestock Professional Association - ULPA ULPA envisions a prosperous Somali community through sustainable use of its livestock species and environment.

BACKGROUND:

Unfortunately, the collapse of Central Government and the followed clan conflict situations in 1991 resulted total destruction of existed supporting infrastructures such as development projects, marketing and veterinary institutions as well as all the regulations related to resource management and environmental conservations, with the consequences of improper use of resources, low inc

ome and poverty to the Somali Communities. This situation had a great impact on livelihoods of different social groups of the Somali Community especially the producers, as livestock demand decreased both in the external and local markets. Despite all kinds of destructions and devastations in the country and community attitude as well as the basic resources, The United Livestock Professional Association (ULPA) managed to take its social responsibility to contribute to solutions of the mentioned problems and vowed to support the Pastoral and agro pastoral communities in the Shabelle valley and livestock owners in Mogadishu outskirt quarters. In early 2002, Vet Professionals in around Mogadishu gathered to form a professional association that can contribute to the wellbeing of the Somali community in general and particularly to the pastoral and agro-pastoral communities in the in somaliland regions
