We are excited to launch an innovative access-to-finance initiative for local farmers, designed to provide capital loans that will enhance productivity and strengthen resilience.

Farmers from Jaleelo and Xunbawayne have submitted their scale-up business plans and will soon pitch their ideas. Following the pitching session, a selected group of farmers will receive initial investment support, while others will benefit in subsequent cycles. This model operates as a revolving fund, where farmers repay loans, enabling others to access financing in a rotational and sustainable way.

This initiative aligns with one of the core pillars of the Green Project empowering local farmers through skills development and improved access to finance.

Special thanks to IBS Bank for co-funding this model and to the Ministry of Agriculture for their continued guidance and support.

Children and families in cannot afford for the world to look away.

SOS Children's Villages Somaliland is joining the call to urgently raise awareness of the worsening humanitarian situation affecting drought-impacted communities. A newly published open letter signed by more than 70 NGOs calls on donors to respond immediately as funding gaps continue to grow and humanitarian needs deepen across the region.

For us in Somaliland, this is deeply personal to the communities we serve. Drought, poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to education and basic services continue to place enormous strain on children and families, especially in rural and displaced communities.

At SOS Childrenโ€™s Villages in Somaliland, we remain committed to supporting children, young people, and families through care, protection, family strengthening, and community support. But in a global funding crisis, local work also needs stronger visibility, solidarity, and donor engagement.

We encourage our partners, supporters, and wider network to read and share the open letter and to stand with children and families in Somaliland during this critical time.

๐ŸŽฌ๐ŸŒฑ Climate Smart Agriculture (Green) Project Impact (2024โ€“2025).

Over the past two years (2024โ€“2025), the Green Project, SOS Children's Villages Somaliland has made meaningful progress in promoting climate-smart livelihoods across Somaliland. Though still a new model in the country, the project has strengthened the skills of youth and smallholder farmers, improved productivity, and expanded access to finance.

This documentary captures real stories from the field and highlights how climate-resilient solutions are transforming lives and communities. The approach has been highly appreciated by key stakeholders, including SOS-Kinderdorf Deutschland, Ministry of Agricultural Development, HarHub and IBS Bank, with growing demand to scale the project to more communities.

๐ŸŒฑ Empowering Smallholder Farmers through Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) ๐ŸŒฑ

Under the SOS Childrenโ€™s Villages Green Project, we successfully trained 33 smallholder farmers from Jaleelo Village and Xunboweyne Village, Marodijeh Region, on Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) under the framework of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

The training focused on practical, locally relevant skills, including:
โœ… Soil conservation and fertility management
โœ… Water conservation and efficient irrigation (drip systems)
โœ… High-yielding, short-maturing, and disease-resistant crops
โœ… Safe pesticide use and integrated crop protection
โœ… Pre- and post-harvest crop management
โœ… Proper storage and market-oriented selling strategies

A participatory and hands-on learning approach was applied, enabling farmers to actively engage through practical demonstrations and group exercises and effectively translate knowledge into practice.

This intervention contributes to strengthening climate-resilient agriculture in the Marodijeh region and supports long-term food security, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability.

We're proud to share that SOS Children's Villages Somaliland, in collaboration with the Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs (MORHA), has successfully implemented the Awdal Humanitarian Drought Response Project.

From February 7th to 9th, 2026, we distributed in-kind food rations to 150 households across three targeted areas:

๐Ÿ“ Boodhka โ€“ 50 households
๐Ÿ“ Cunaqabad โ€“ 50 households
๐Ÿ“ Ashoโ€™ado Village โ€“ 50 households

This food distribution aims to ensure that drought affected families meet their minimum dietary requirements.

SOS Childrenโ€™s Villages Somaliland, in partnership with Amoud University, has successfully launched and is actively implementing a comprehensive Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) and Agri-Employability Skills Training Program for 128 youth in Borama, Awdal Region ๐ŸŒฑ

The training is currently ongoing and progressing as planned, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical sessions to ensure meaningful learning outcomes. The program is designed to equip young women and men with market-relevant, climate-responsive skills, empowering them to address climate change challenges while unlocking sustainable livelihood pathways and green job opportunities.

By investing in youth capacity, this initiative is building a more resilient, skilled, and environmentally conscious generation ready to contribute to sustainable agricultural development in Somaliland.
