Bareedo Platform Somalia was pleased to participate in the Electoral Integrity in Africa Summit III, held on 23–24 September 2026 in Accra, Ghana, under the theme: “Money, Technology & Civic Rights: Defending Electoral Integrity in Africa.”
Representing Bareedo Platform Somalia, our Executive Director,Abdikhayr Mohamed Hussein, participated as a panellist in the opening session, “Examining the Multiple Threats to Democratic Governance and Shaping New Solutions.”
During the discussion, Abdikhayr shared experiences and lessons from Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa on shrinking civic space, limited youth participation, threats to digital rights, misinformation, declining public trust, and other challenges affecting democratic participation and electoral integrity.
He also introduced , Bareedo Platform Somalia’s bilingual civic technology platform, which provides accessible civic education, trusted voter and electoral information, opportunities for citizen engagement, and safe digital tools for reporting election-related concerns. DoorashoKaab demonstrates how locally developed digital solutions can promote informed participation, strengthen electoral transparency, engage young people, and support more inclusive and accountable democratic processes.
We are grateful for the opportunity to contribute Somalia’s perspectives to this important continental dialogue and to exchange experiences with election practitioners, civil society leaders, regional institutions, and democracy advocates from across Africa.
