In March 2026, we conducted a follow-up community engagement and sensitization training across the same 10 villages in Bosaso District, Bari Region: Af-Urur, Galgalato, Jiingada, Kalabayr, Yalho, Dalweyn, Ciiradhame, Geesaqabad, Kobdhexaad, and Jeedaal.

This subsequent phase aimed to reinforce earlier learnings and further strengthen the capacity of Village Relief Committees in effectively implementing conditional cash transfer programs and livestock fodder support initiatives. The sessions placed added emphasis on practical application, continuous improvement, and sustaining transparency and accountability mechanisms at the community level.

The continued participation and commitment demonstrated by community members and local leaders highlight the growing ownership and collaboration within these villages.

We sincerely appreciate the dedication of all stakeholders involved.

Together, we are deepening impact and strengthening the resilience of communities.

Somali women association (SWA) proudly joins more than 70 NGOs across Somalia in calling for urgent global support as the prolonged drought continues to push millions of people toward severe hunger.

Across the country, an estimated 6.5 million people are facing acute food insecurity, while 1.85 million children are at risk of acute malnutrition. Without immediate and scaled-up humanitarian assistance, many vulnerable families could face life-threatening conditions.

Humanitarian organizations are working tirelessly to provide life-saving assistance, but critical funding gaps are limiting the response at a time when needs are rapidly increasing.

Urgent action is needed now to help communities survive the drought, protect vulnerable families, and prevent further suffering.

πŸ“Š Drought Response Achievements – Last 3 Months

We are pleased to share our drought response dashboard, highlighting the tremendous achievements made over the past three months in supporting vulnerable communities affected by drought.

With the generous support of the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), our interventions have focused on protecting livelihoods, improving food security, and strengthening the resilience of pastoralist households.

Key highlights from our response include:
βœ”οΈ 1,400 households supported with livestock fodder (50kg per household)
βœ”οΈ Unconditional cash assistance of $65 per household for 3 months
βœ”οΈ Support to drought-affected pastoralist communities to protect livestock and sustain livelihoods

These achievements would not have been possible without the strong collaboration of our partners, dedicated field teams, and the resilience of the communities we serve.

πŸ“Œ See the dashboard for a full overview of our impact over the last three months.

Together, we continue working to support communities affected by drought and climate shocks across Somalia.

🌿 Supporting Livelihoods in Bari Region

We successfully carried out the distribution of livestock fodder to drought-affected families in Bari Region, supporting pastoralist communities to protect their animals and sustain their livelihoods during this challenging drought period.

Through this intervention, 1,400 households received 50kg of livestock fodder each, helping families keep their animals alive during the ongoing drought. In addition, each household will receive a $65 unconditional cash grant per month for three months to support their basic needs and strengthen household resilience.

For many families, livestock are their primary source of food and income. This support aims to reduce livestock loss and help vulnerable households cope with the impacts of climate change and prolonged drought.

We sincerely thank our partners, community leaders, and field teams for their collaboration and dedication in supporting drought-affected communities.

Together, we continue to stand with families in need and work toward sustainable recovery. πŸ’š

We conducted a baseline assessment in 10 villages where we are currently working. The findings clearly indicate severe drought conditions affecting both the communities and their livestock. This project is being implemented jointly by our organization and SHF, and we hope it will bring meaningful improvement, Insha’Allah.
