Yovenco- Youth Volunteers For Development & Environment Conservation Empowering People & Enhancing Lives Through Community Driven Initiatives since 2001. 1.

Vision:
A society where every citizen has a better livelihood and free from diseases, human rights are upheld and the environment is protected and conserved.
2. Mission:
To improve the lives of the poor and most vulnerable youth, women and children of Somaliland for Better livelihood and health, protecting their rights, and conserving the environment through policy advocacy, awareness creation, empowerment, and mobilization of resources.
3. Slogan:
'' Empowering people and enhancing lives through community driven initiatives”
4. Strategic Objectives:
YOVENCO has a wide mandate for programming and operationalisation. Clarification of its mandate is based on what is provided in its constitution and the current legal context in Somaliland. YOVENCO is mandated to do work around the following main objectives:
 To develop the capacity of local communities in citizenship, participatory planning and local governments decentralization of service delivery.
 To promote environmental conservation and adoption of renewable energy.
 To promote access of clean water, sanitation and hygiene and basic health services.
 Promote education and vocational & Technical skills
 To foster youth and women empowerment.
 To provide livelihood for hunger reduction.
 To promote human rights, inclusiveness and good governance.

Growing resilience, one greenhouse at a time 🌱

30 youth and women — 19 women and 11 men — from the Ali Huseen and Barwaaqo IDP camps have completed hands-on training in climate-smart horticulture, learning to grow high-value crops like tomatoes, peppers, and leafy greens.

The training tackles two challenges at once: food insecurity and water scarcity. Participants learned practical, resilient farming techniques suited to their environment — skills they can put to use right away to feed their families and build a steady source of income.

Small steps like this are how communities build lasting resilience. 💪

We, at YOVENCO, are delighted to congratulate all students who participated in the Somaliland Grade 8 National Examination for the 2025/2026 academic year.

We extend special congratulations to the students of Sh. Muse Primary School in Barwaaqo IDP, whose students achieved outstanding results and secured top positions.

The school was constructed in 2023 by YOVENCO, with funding from Plan International Somaliland, in response to the urgent educational needs of the Barwaaqo IDP community.

This achievement is a true reflection of the dedication of the students, teachers, parents, and the wider community. Congratulations to everyone on this remarkable success!

Smiles, laughter, and learning came together as children from Camp Barwaaqo, Cali Xuseen, Koosaar, October, and 27 May in Burco participated in structured recreational and psychosocial support (PSS) activities under the Carruurta Ilaali, Bulshada Dhis – Protect Children, Build Communities (BUILD) Project, reaching 284 children (144 girls and 140 boys).

Through inclusive games, creative expression, storytelling, and group activities, children strengthened their confidence, resilience, and social connections in safe and child-friendly spaces. The activity also ensured the meaningful participation of children with disabilities, promoting inclusion, equal participation, and a sense of belonging for every child.
At YOVENCO, we remain committed to creating protective and inclusive environments where every child can play, learn, and thrive.

YOVENCO conducted a four-day capacity-building training for 44 Child Welfare Committee members and community leaders (22 women and 22 men) from six communities in Burao: Camp Barwaaqo, Guryo Samo, Cali Xuseen, Koosaar, October, and 27 May. The training strengthened knowledge and practical skills in child protection, disability inclusion, gender-based risks, Psychological First Aid (PFA), and referral pathways.

As a result, participants are now better equipped to identify risks early, respond safely, and promote community-led protection mechanisms. This has contributed to stronger, more inclusive local systems that better safeguard vulnerable children, including those with disabilities. The activity was implemented under the “Protect Children, Build Communities” project, funded by Save the Children International.

YOVENCO TVET Institute has successfully commenced the implementation of the Initiative for Marketable Practices in Agri-business, Circular Economy and Technology (IMPACT), in collaboration with Save the Children.

The Initiative is supporting green skills development for youth in Somaliland, by delivering institute-based training in solar energy technology to 107 youth (60 male and 47 female), equipping them with practical, industry-relevant competencies in solar installation and maintenance.
