Urgent Appeal for Water Trucking Support – Bay & Bakool Regions

We kindly appeal to all humanitarian agencies, organizations, and generous individuals to support vulnerable IDP families through emergency water trucking assistance.

Currently, there is a severe water shortage across the entire Bay and Bakool regions. Many internally displaced families are struggling to access clean and safe water for daily use. The situation has become even more critical during this blessed month of Ramadan, when families need sufficient water for drinking, cooking, and hygiene.

Let us come together to support the most vulnerable communities during this difficult time. Your contribution can help save lives and bring relief to families in urgent need.

1. Executive Summary
Somali Vulnerable Community Hope Makers (SVCHM) conducted a Water
Tracking Activity on 03 February 2026 in Baidoa IDP settlements, targeting
vulnerable internally displaced populations in Baidoa IDPs and we have
reached Berhanooy IDP and Bay and Bakool IDP in Hanaano Zone . A total of
210 households benefited from this intervention.
The activity aimed to monitor access to clean water, identify existing gaps, and
support vulnerable households in accessing safe water services. Findings reveal
that while some water sources exist, many households face serious challenges
including insufficient water storage containers, long distances to water points,
and limited ability to safely store water at household level.
SVCHM intends to continue and expand water tracking and monitoring
activities across Bay and Bakool Regions. We therefore request support from
UN agencies, the WASH Cluster, the Ministry of Energy and Water
Resources – Southwest State, and other implementing partners to
strengthen these efforts and improve sustainable access to safe water for IDP
communities.
