Youth In Action (YIA), Baidoa is pleased to join the South West State Ministry of Women and Family Affairs in a joint community awareness campaign aimed at strengthening preparedness and reducing the potential impacts of Super El Niรฑo.
The campaign focused on raising community awareness about the risks associated with heavy rainfall, flooding, and flash floods, while promoting practical preparedness measures to help communities reduce exposure to climate-related hazards and protect lives and livelihoods.
Community members were advised to avoid crossing flooded roads, rivers, and waterways, never walk or drive through fast-moving floodwater, and stay away from riverbanks, low-lying areas, and other flood-prone locations during periods of heavy rainfall. The campaign also emphasized the importance of early warning information, official alerts, and timely action to reduce risks and prevent avoidable loss of life.
This joint initiative highlights the importance of strong collaboration between government institutions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and local communities in strengthening early warning systems, disaster preparedness, community protection, and resilience to climate-related risks.
Through collective action and community engagement, Youth In Action (YIA), Baidoa remains committed to promoting preparedness, awareness, protection, and resilient communities across South West State.
Together, we can prepare early, act responsibly, and save lives.
