🌊 Responding Together: Joint Flood Assessment Mission Supporting Vulnerable Communities

From 20–24 June 2026, BREDO proudly participated in a joint flood impact assessment mission conducted across Wadajir, Kaxda, Hodan, and Bondhere Districts in the Banadir Region.

The mission was carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), the European Union (EU), Banadir Regional Administration, and local humanitarian partners to assess the impact of recent heavy rains and flash floods on affected communities.

Throughout the assessment, teams engaged directly with local residents and community leaders to better understand the challenges faced by flood-affected households and identify priority needs for recovery and support.

Key areas assessed included:

✅ Damage to roads and public infrastructure
✅ Flood-affected residential areas and displacement risks
✅ Disruptions to transportation and access to essential services
✅ Immediate humanitarian needs of vulnerable families
✅ Community priorities for recovery and resilience building

The information collected will contribute to coordinated response and recovery efforts aimed at supporting affected communities, restoring essential services, and enhancing preparedness for future climate-related emergencies.

BREDO remains committed to working closely with government institutions, development partners, and local communities to strengthen disaster preparedness, promote resilience, and ensure that vulnerable populations receive timely and effective support.

On 4/12/2025, BREDO NGO was among the organizations invited to an important meeting related to global climate change, which took place in Mogadishu.

There is a strong relationship between youth and climate, as it is known that 70% of Somalia’s population consists of young people. The future of our country lies in the hands of the youth, and whatever we do today will clearly determine how our country will look in the coming years and where it will end up.

The NAP and NDC are important frameworks that guide how Somalia responds to climate change.

BREDO’s protection team conducted community engagement sessions focusing on raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV), child protection, and the rights of vulnerable individuals, including internally displaced persons (IDPs). The sessions targeted women, youth, and community leaders to strengthen local protection mechanisms and encourage reporting of protection concerns.”
